Right here goes;

Basically I want to know whether this is a valid combination and if my interpretation of the NCoC is correct, Thanks!

EUS - NMP (SOR - £12.95PRV)
Heart of England Rover 3 in 7 (£17.75PRV)
CRE - MAN (SDR Route Virgin Trains Only £2.65PRV)

Totals £33.35

using section 19 of the NCoC - 19.

Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire
journey and one of the following applies:
(a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
(b) the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one
ticket to another; or

(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include
Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport
executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.
You must comply with any restriction shown on the tickets relating to travel in the trains of
a particular Train Company or Train Companies (see Condition 10).
If you do not comply with this Condition, you will be treated as having joined the train
without a ticket and the relevant parts of Condition 2 or 4 will apply, either to the entire
journey, or from the last station where the train stopped at which at least one of the
tickets was valid.
For the purposes of this Condition, a “leisure travel pass” means any multi-journey ticket
(excluding Season Tickets) valid for:
(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or
(ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days
and includes rover tickets, travel passes, flexipass tickets and Britrail passes.

As that is, I assume the train does not need to stop at either of the splitting points because section 19 B does not apply here which I have underlined, now can I get away with this being NMP even if the train omits the loop when the 3-7 rover takes over as it is a leisure ticket?

OR does anybody know a cheaper way on the day of a privilege card holder to get to Manchester for some train bashing!

Thanks!

No.

A combination of tickets splitting at Northampton does not cover the entire journey if the train avoids Northampton. You would need an additional ticket valid from the last station before Hanslope Jn (Wolverton) to the first station after Hilmorton Jn (Rugby).

No this is not valid as the train has to pass through Northampton. Most Virgin services avoid Northampton and go via Weedon. This would also cause problems at the other end, as only 1tph goes via Crewe.

In any case, that option isn't as cheap as this, which gives you the choice of the more frequent 2tph via Stoke on Trent.

London Terminals Milton Keynes Ctl VT Only SDR £7.25
East Midlands 3 In 7 Rover £17.75
Stoke on Trent Manchester Stns VT Only SDR £2.95
Total = £27.95.

The cheapest way to do this would be to buy an £18.50 London Midland Only SOR to Stoke on Trent, and a Stoke on Trent to Manchester Virgin Trains Only SDR £2.65. Total £21.15. However of course you'd have to catch the slower LM service.

Mojo you have saved the day again!... My main aim was to avoid LM, not my favourite way to spend the day!

If you mean that there is a train that is usually booked via Northampton (whether it calls or not) but on one particular day either due to pre-planned engineering or on the day disruption it stays on the main, then yes I believe you can.

If it is one of the majority of VT services that are booked main line, then what everyone else said.

Maybe not but he can get to Rugby for the same price by splitting at Queens Park and Wolverton.

NLC1072, how brave are you with explaining your tickets? There are some hefty savings to be had but I don't want to be hearing any reports of drama with TMs as a result of advising some almost implausible workarounds.
