I must be going senile, I have booked this before but have forgotten how to now! I need to book 2 Senior Off Peak Travel cards for London Zones 1 -2 . I would like to pick them up at Runcorn Station before departure to save time messing about in London ( I have done this before). We are only in London for a few hours and wish to visit London Br, Clapham Junction and possibly Kings Cross / St Panc so Zone 1-2 will do, in fact Zone 1 would be enough. Cant seem to book them at NRE website. Any help please?

I believe if you're buying a railcard-discounted travelcard the minimum fare comes into play and there is no advantage to buying a Zones 1-2 travelcard over a Zones 1-6 travelcard, as they are all the same price, i.e. £5.60.

Correct. There are no cheaper fares available for Day Travelcards with a Railcard.

If the OP has an Oyster card, there is however a Zone 1-2 Off Peak £4.60 Price Cap for Oyster Pay As You Go cards loaded with Railcard discount.

On a WebTIS site such as East Coast, ask for:

Origin: EUS (London Euston) [or any other railway station within the Zones]
Destination: 0035 (London Zones 1-6) [with a Railcard discount Zones 1-2 costs the same as Zones 1-6]
Railcards: 2
Railcard Type: Senior

Later in the purchasing process, specify that you want to collect the tickets ar Runcorn.

Just tried that on both East Coast and Southern both come up with No fares found for your selected service. I entered Euston, London zones 0035 ( zones 1-6) Day is May 10 after 15:00. I tried both single and return journey and get same results. What am I doing wrong please?

I usually use Kensington (Olympia) as the start as I've had issues with using a London Terminal as the start.

Just tried it now on RSH and it ws fine. Out of interest, looked at tthe times it was offering and all the services were From Olympia - Vauxhall, change at Clapham Junction. Not sure why it picked that for an Olympia to Zones 1-6 ticket.

Any ticket booked on any ticketing website can be collected from any TVM in the country offering ticket collection facilities (with a few exceptions, such as some Southern promotional tickets and tickets booked on thetrainline's corporate site if your company has a ticketing machine on its premises).

For the benefit of people who are unfamiliar with the way WebTIS engines sell a Day Travelcard product, please note that the engine will attempt to find a valid itinerary between the origin and London Terminals first before offering a fare.

The implication of this is that an origin of something like King's Cross or London Bridge will return an error as a valid itinerary cannot be found for what is effectively a journey from London Terminals to London Terminals. The origin must be somewhere that is not a London Terminal.

I usually use Kensington (Olympia) as the start as I've had issues with using a London Terminal as the start.

This is because Vauxhall is a London Terminal. The complete list is here.

I would have said Kings Cross would be a good place to get a travelcard from on RSH because of the links with the transfer to Moorgate... but RSH seem to deny that Moorgate is a National Rail station. Try it! (MOG/Moorgate) it doesn't come up, just Moorgate (Tube) that comes up with nothing useful except a U1 single sometimes from outside the zones...

I finally booked my 2 Travelcards tickets for Wednesday this week, strange thing is I booked Kensington Olympia to London Zones 1 - 4 and the booking voucher shows Journey 1: Kensington (Olympia) to London Zones 1-4 however it then shows Outward Journey Kensington Olympia dep 10:41 Change at Clapham Junction dep: 11:05 Arrive Vauxhall 11:09. That not what I wanted!!!

At the bottom it does say One Day Off Peak Travelcard. Cost for 2 senior card holders £11.20

All looks very strange to me but I assume its the correct ticket that I have booked. I booked the Travelcard on the Southern website. Does it sound correct to you gentlemen?

Yes that's right. You can ignore the itinerary since you're only using the Travelcard element, and have paid the correct fare. As you've mentioned it does say One Day Off Peak Travelcard.

The fact that certain trains have been suggested is explained by bb21 above, in post #10.

Incidentally for future reference, as has also been mentioned, a discounted 1-6 travelcard would have cost the same as the discounted 1-4 travelcard.

Can (and will) ticket offices excess R1234 to R1256?

Yes, but please come back to us when you receive your tickets and tell us if they are correct. A Travelcard should be issued as a single card with Travelcard and the 0 roundel in bold type at the top.

We did have a few reports a year or two ago that some train companies were issuing outward and return portions in error, leading to difficulties with acceptance on some modes of transport. The lack of recent reports suggests the fault has been fixed.

Picked up my Travelcard tickets from Runcorn earlier and can confirm that it does have the London roundel and the words Day Travelcard across the top, halfway down it says Between Kensington Olympia & London Zones 1-4. so it looks like it's correct. Thanks for all your help and advice.

If I issue one I do it from CLJ. It avoids the London Terminals aspect and my passengers will be going through CLJ anyway.
