Or a FTPE Cl170

Not between Hull and York as TPE don't run services on that route. You could pick up a 170 between Hull and Selby but there isn't much point as you'll probably just end up on a 158 that has come from Hull anyway!

As for stock the likely hood is that it's going to be a 158 but 142s and other various pieces of Northern rolling stock are always possible.

When I went on the route that doesn't go via Sherburn in Elmet, it was a 158, as were quite a few services from Hull. There were a few Pacers kicking around in Hull though, although I am led to believe that 142's are less common there

They are pretty unusual around our way pretty much only turning up on Sheffield - Hull/Beverly runs (and even then it's normally only one pacer on one diagram). They do sometimes go further but only on Hull - Bridlington services I don't think they ever do a full run on Sheffield - Bridlington (unless things have gone wrong).

There is a 142 diagram Monday to Friday starting on the 1020 York to Hull doing two trips to Hull and back before going on Harrogate line duties. Its quite often a 144 on a Monday but a 142 for the rest of the week. Its usually formed of the unit which starts the day at York on half of the 0544 to Selby returning to York ecs to Selby then to Leeds then a rare class 1 service Leeds to York

I'll never understand Northern and their diagrams

I think its because the 2 x 142 Tuesday to Friday come of the Newcastle to York ECS and on a Monday the 144 comes in on Sunday from somewhere else possibly Harrogate line

It was Good Friday (well, maybe not so good in Hull!) and I think there were at least 2 x 142's in at one point from what I can remember.

Seeing them earlier in the day, I was a tad concerned the (seemingly low frequency) all shacks to York (i.e calling at North Ferriby and such) would be one, but it was a 158 thankfully :)

As far as I am aware, they don't get further than Brid as I don't know of one turning up in Scarborough

It's unlikely as most (if not all) of those runs are operated by TPE crews and they won't sign for 142s.

Not the case, the majority of Scarborough - Hulls are worked by Northern Staff from Hull, only a few (especially early and late shifts starting / ending at Scarborough) are worked by Scarborough TPE. Hull TPE do not sign the coast

There is one working from Lincoln via Sheffield to Hull which is supposedly always booked a 14x. The rest will normally be 158s, but I have seen a 144 on a York - Hull when a 158 failed and they took it off the Harrogate loop train.

The daily Lincoln to Hull certainly has been a 144 each time I have seen it.

I think the traction knowledge runs around Hull are generally on a Saturday evening and Sunday. There are regular turns for 150s and 2x 153s.

That'll be the working I'll get the next time I'm down in East Yorkshire. Lincoln - Hull is one long journey on a Pacer.

Since the Hull-York was recast with more frequent services there are a few booked pacer workings on Hull-York and Doncaster-Hull/Beverley, plus the daily Lincoln-Hull. For example, the 0728 Doncaster-Beverley and return working at 0900 are booked pacer. The last service from Hull-Sheffield (all stops) is also normally a pacer, generally the one off the Lincoln service. Pacers rarely make it to Bridlington as they tend to be confined to diagrams that work to Beverley only, although it's not unheard of.

Cheers - is this the ECS that deals with the Sheffield area 142s? I've wondered how they get to/from Heaton (since we are an outpost of Newcastle!)

I've heard it before that one of the last trains from the Harrogate line is attached to others then sent ECS to Heaton.

It comes off Harrogate line then goes up to.Heaton. from York at about 1910. The two 142s coming the other way come off the 2200 Newcastle - Darlington then forward as ECS to York. Both then form the 0544 York to Selby with one returning to York and one going to Doncaster

Just checked details the Northbound ECS starts at Knaresborough at 1838 after working from Leeds
