National Rail ticketing to metrolink & vice versa

Perhaps someone might be able to explain this ticket cost anomaly.

Reddish North (National Rail) to Chorlton (Manchester Metrolink)

It's a journey I make quite regularly, however I have noticed that there is a price difference if I purchase my ticket from Chorlton.

It would normally cost £4.20 what ever the time when I buy from RDN, but to purchase from Chorlton on the metrolink costs £3.20 what ever the time. Metrolink ticket machines class RDN in Rail Zone 1.

Usual costs for a split ticket from RDN to MAN (Pic) is £2.20 return & £1.10 for an evening return.

MAN to chorlton return is £2.80 off peak.

So the joint ticket is a real saving, but why the difference for same journey if I buy from Chorlton? Can anyone explain?

I've tried asking the Northern ticket staff whom don't know why either?

The fare from Reddish North to MetroZone P (which includes Chorlton) is £4.40 return before 0930 but should be £3.20 after 0930.

Hi Peter,

Sadly it's not. last night i went to buy my ticket from Reddish North to Chorlton and the lady behind the counter said fare was £4.20; (it may have been £4.40 but £4.20 sticks in my mind) which is what i usually pay, if i buy a ticket at any time, off peak or peak.

I questioned the lady, if this was correct, and she turned around the screen from the machine to show me the fare. I can only assume then that the machine is programmed wrong, but if it's wrong then all ticket machines are wrong, as they are linked up arent they?
