Hi guys,

This is my first time on the forum and my first post so hi guys!....

I'm planning on doing a South Pennine Day Ranger this Monday (7th May), we'll be starting at Dronfield on the 0859 Northern service...any tips or good routes to do???

Also...I will have an Adult version of the ticket but my friend will be travelling on a DSB version...is it possible for him to purchase two tickets at the discounted price for someone who doesn't have a railcard? :D

Any tips depend very much on what your objectives are ; Mileage ; class bashing ; spotting or just scenery watching.

Thats my plan for tomorrow. Take the 4 year old out on the trains. Based in huddersfield, and I already have a Zone 1-5 WYMetroCard. But worth the cost to show him something different. Planning on Manchester, Down to stockport then along to Sheffield.

Just to clarify for future reference - if both passengers didn't have a railcard then he shouldn't really have done that ;) - you need to have a railcard for every railcard discounted ticket

I planned a trip which I haven't done yet because I've not been able to get "up North" :)
For volume , I was looking at Leeds / Wakefield Kirkgate/ Sheffield & Manchester Piccadilly.
Looking at your username you'll get a good sized hit on 185s ! at Man Picc:D with the whole class passing through at some point or other ! You should be looking at around 20 of the class in a 2 hour period.
At Piccadilly ,other than 185 s you'll be getting Virgin Pendolinos, Cross Country Voyagers ,Northern 323 EMUS & Northern 142/150/156 .A small number of Freightliner 66s pass through to/from Trafford Park (1 or 2 per hour).
For the Yorkshire destinations it'll be mainly Northern 142/144/150/155/156 & the Skipton 333 EMUs.

I was planning to start on the Lanky side and cross the Pennines on 2 different routes :- Hope Valley line out and the Standedge route back.

Have a great time !

Thank you - maybe when you come 'up north' we could go out for a bash or something together...(don't get any dirty ideas! ;))

Went up to Wakefield then up to Leeds and across to Manchester via Huddersfield and Bradford before doing several different trains between MAN and Stockport. :D
