It's up to Virgin in that case - they can either retain you on another fixed term contract, make you permanent or send you on your way without redundancy payments - you haven't got a great deal of job security. However a lot of companies do seem to use these contacts as taster periods to see whether they hire someone permanently. It's a risk but it's up to you whether you think it's worth it.

Isn't that date the same (or just about) as the date that the new franchise takes over ICWC? In which case I'd be a bit worried about the likelihood of the contract being renewed.

Unless Virgin retain the franchise, these contracts will end at the end of the franchise. If Virgin retain then one of three things will happen. Either your contract will be made permanent, you will be made to reapply or your contract will be extended.

To be honest (and this is my personal advice), It's worth waiting until the franchise decision is made in August. Either way you look at it, they are stupidly understaffed so will go on a hiring spree if they retain. The only vacancies coming up which are permanent are TM Vacancies which are always internal.

Do you have any idea which depot the TM vacancies are for?
Cheers.

Only one up at the moment is for Preston. Internal candidates only obviously.

Just had a proper look and it's actually up until the 16th.

Ah thanks!
I'm one of the casual CSA's in Manc, but yeah Preston is a bit too far for me lol.

Hi Asian,

If Virgin don't win the franchise there is nothing that says all contracts will be ended. I work in a booking office for Virgin and I am quietly confident of being made perm either way. There is a vacancy there at my booking office that needs filling.

Obviously I would prefer Virgin to win it, but we will have to see.

Out of interest when were the Preston TM vacancies put up? I have been off this week, but didn't see them last week? Thanks Sammy H

Fixed term contracts will be ended prior to the end of the franchise. This will not change unless virgin retain or the new TOC decide to extend them or make them permanent.

My advice to you from personal experience is don't expect that just because a vacancy exists, it will automatically become yours just because you do the role already. This was expected for a vacancy at Euston where a majority of the applicants were current staff in the role on fixed term contracts and when full time and part time extended contracts came up, none of the current staff who applied got it. All external candidates got the job.

I don't mean this as disrespectful, just more don't assume anything. Virgins recruitment process is something I still don't understand to this day XD

Whoever wins it wins it I guess. May the best bid win.

As for the TM Vacancy, it only came up last Wednesday. It'll be on the board until the 16th. Competition as always, will be intense for this role.

My advice would be to apply to the vacancy that just came up today and is up until the 16th. 24hr part time contract for Onboard CSA based at Man Pic. Only Saturday and Sunday working apparently.

Yeah I noticed the advert earlier on today and have nearly finished applying for it. But yeah it'd be great to finally having some fixed hours after 8 months as a casual. Though I'm not gonna get carried away as the position/s could easily be filled by external staff.

I didn't apply for it, but there's gonna be some hot competition for the internal permenant CSA role which closed last week at Man Pic.
