 It seems rather strange that East Coast site will allow ticket sales (including Advance) for 3rd August for FGW journeys while the FGW site (trainline) version will not ??? The FGW site will block you with the not more than 12 weeks in advance message ! ;) Not very good for First Group profit margin LOL

However, Red Spotted Hanky seem to be willing to sell FGW advances up to 10th August!

Looking on the Gospel (...) that is nationalrail.co.uk, no date in August can be selected at this time, but any date in July right up to the 31st can be.

Something seems wrong with the FGW site upon checking tickets from Ashchurch to London for the 6th June i was being offered a Super Off Peak Single for £19.55 on the :

1305 Ashchurch to Birmingham New Street 1345
1410 Birmingham to London Euston 1532

Which i wouldn't think is a permitted route.

Any ideas on why this is being offered?

From what I can see, the SOS for ASC - EUS is more than it is from Barnt Green, which is one of its routeing points, and from BTG you would go via BHM. Does the Fares Check rule require any or all fares to be lower? I forget

This may explain it.

Fares check is passed if any of the SOS, SVS, SDS or CDS is passed for an associated routeing point.

That's also permitted according to NRE. I can't check the RG now.

All fares comparisons 'must be made using the same ticket type', so says the Routeing Guide.

Sonic2009's fare is a Super Off Peak Single (SSS), Any Permitted. There is no Super Off Peak Single, Any Permitted from Barnt Green....

The Off Peak Single, Any Permitted (SVS), is less from Ashchurch than it is from Barnt Green, so that would fail the fares check rule.

The Anytime Single, Any Permitted (SOS), is more from Ashchurch than it is from Barnt Green, so that would pass the fares check rule.

I'd conclude that on if travelling on the Anytime Single, Any Permitted, you would, according to the Routeing Guide, be allowed to travel via Birmingham from Ashchurch to London Terminals. Less clear cut if travelling on the Super Off Peak Single. But, if as bb21 says, any of the fares can be used for a fares check, then it is allowed.

Finally, and despite the Routeing Guide, if a booking engine gives up an itinerary via Brum for the Super Off Peak Single, then that's evidence of a contract term and travel should be allowed regardless.

As I understand it, the SOS or SDS should be used where possible. If not available for the journeys needed, other fares may be used.

The ticket type held is not relevant, Permitted Routes are defined independently of this.

Agree with the second bit, not with the first. The customer may compare the SOS, SVS, SDS, or CDS fares and if any one comparison is favourable, may use the routeing point.

Page 3 of Section A of the NRG states that:

NRG Section A said:
All fares comparisons must be made using one of the following single ticket
types:
• Standard Open Single (SOS)
• Standard Day Single (SDS)
• Saver Single (SVS)
• Cheap Day Single (CDS)
In exceptional circumstances, due to local fares policies, a direct comparison
may not be possible. If this is the case and the origin station or destination
station has a lower fare of the type selected than all its routeing points, the
Standard Single (Day or Open) fares should be used for comparison
purposes.

There is no mention as to which fare has priority over which, only that fares of the same type should be compared if possible.

I will mention i was not planning on buying this ticket. I'm trying to find an ultra-cheap way of getting to Eastbourne.
