Flooding at NLW

Just a quick update. I was travelling into Manchester from Helsby this morning and we were delayed slightly at NLW. This apparently was caused by a flooded line and the incident is still ongoing. It is affecting trains in both directions so if you have a tight connection to make you may want to bear in mind that this incident added about 4 mins to our jouney.

Newton - Le - Willows is the station I believe !

To give some background information to this report, the area of land referred in Newton le Willows to falls on the 25 metre land contour and was nothing but a morass up to the 17th century and despite a very long period of drainage and cultivation, the low lying land and its associated underlying water table is still affected by the aftermath of heavy rainfall.

The former Roman road from Newton Brook to Warrington passed through this area and some historical reports by the Roman military road builders reported great difficulty in keeping the road level to the required height over the land it crossed.
