Further from my comment on the East Coast 1st class thread regarding the 10.00 KGX-ABD being short formed missing a 1st class carriage, a further HST has just been noted at York with no buffet car but 3 1st class carriages.

Anyone any the wiser as to the cause of these altered formations?

Very odd diagramming, I know it will end up a Leeds, but you would have expected the last diagram you would want a short formed train on is the anglo - Scottish services. The ones going beyond Edinburgh espcailly as they are often 100% loaded.

Surprised the didn't try and have it on a Leeds / York / Newcastle or Newark Daigram where a missing coach would not be missed.

I will see how packed it is at Waverley when i catch up with it.

Reasonable number at Haymarket - nothing on the monitors about the game of squash.

Standard class not badly loaded. Except coach G. Have any returned to proper 1st class?

Not seen any coming from G into 1st class this time around. Still people moaning though! They should be happy the train is not cancelled.

One way off looking at it, still very surprised at the Daigram but hey easy for me to say, I am sure there is a good reason behind it.

Not going to get much repeat business off the £25 ticket mob. I wonder if that is why the cheapest tickets get coach M ;)

Back in coach C, ironically we have more space than 1st class.

Coach J has been removed from one of the HSTs for maintenance work hence the short formed HST.

There's an EC HST rake (as of 1730ish on Wednesday at least) with a solitary ex-EMT coach sandwiched in a sea of EC liveried coaches. Or maybe I imagined it whooshing past me on the up slow to Haymarket while I was on the up fast..

Do they have extra buffets? I have often seen the form EMT train with an East Coast buffet in the formation, then other times seen it with the ex-EMT buffet?

On a general note it is a long time since I have seen a mk4 set with missing coaches, something that happened a lot in BR / GNER days.

I guess you were lucky you didn't get the missing buffet set furball. Lots of 1st class seats but not food or drink may be worse than getting the full (in the lose terms) offer in a standard class seat!

I may be the buffet, which may explain why the last time I saw the EMT set the buffet was an east coast one! (or maybe not!)

So that would have been the one I spotted at York on the way north

Indeed but to be more correct; as a spare 1st Class HST trailer was available, it was inserted into the formation.

Thus the formation is power car - 3 TFs - 4 TSs - 1 TGS - power car, don't know how long the train will run without proper catering facilities.

Depending how well worded their passenger charter is, they might have to fork out a few shillings in compo for inadequate service provision etc.. Though I don't know how other TOCs react.

If Virgin's trolley between Euston-Preston didn't show up, I imagine a lot of 1st class travellers would have a few words to say, "what am I spending my childrens inheritance on by travelling 1st class" if Theo Paphitis of Dragons Pen was travelling.

Yes the HST with a first class coach (de-classified) G has been going about for a while, its also not had a catering vehicle for today and yesterday. I dont know the exact fault with it but its currently at Neville Hill. This set has made the same booked workings each day, 0605 LDS-KX, 0908 KX-YRK, 1201 YRK-KX, 1508 KX-YRK, 1801 YRK-KX, 2135 KX-LDS. I spoke to someone who worked the 0605 yesterday, the first class punters were not happy bunnys.

I was told by a Leeds driver that the set with no coach M failed yesterday due to the fire alarm activated in one of the power cars (no fire found), it was then taken from Doni to craigentinny by thunderbird for checks. Maybe this is why the coach M was not put back in last night? Like failed unit, im puzzled why it was put on an Aberdeen service, however although the 1008 Newark service is HST, this set is booked to work the 1500 KX-EDIN later on, im sure control looked at all the options before doing this.

Both sets are due to stable at NL tonight so maybe all will be sorted in the morning.

In answer to is there a spare buffet, well there should be 1 somewhere, however it will be one with a non refurbished kitchen, after the final catering vehicle was fitted with the new kitchen (on the EMT set) the old one riding about in that set was taken out and i assume kept as a spare?

I can confirm that 43274+43305 were running around with the declassified coach G, though the formation had regained its catering vehicle. They worked the 0930 from Lincoln, with appropriate announcements being made to passengers as to where to find their reserved seats.

EC have 2 spare buffets, 40705 & 40805. EC64 (the ex-EMT set), got its own buffet back afew months.

To be fair, the sets are correct most of the time, but sometimes defects happen that cause coaches to be removed, and sometimes that will away from Craigentinny where the spare coaches are kept.
