I read somewhere about an isolated NR station served by two different lines, and the station is used solely to change between the two lines because there is no actual pedestrian access to the station.
Does anyone know which station this is, and is it the only one of its kind?

Might be Dovey Junction, although can't remember if that has some sort of footpath access.

There are also a few stations on private land where you cannot access, such as Lympstone Commando and British Steel Redcar.

Philjo has it: Smallbrook Jn which interchanges between the Island Line (SWT) and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. 38 Stock only calls at it when the steam railway is running. The only way to get to the pair of grade-separated platforms is by train.

outside the UK, there's Manulla junction in Ireland, where passenegers can nonly change between the main and branchlines.

Not a Network Rail line, but Cornbrook (manchester metrolink) used to have no pedestrian access - it was only somewhere to change between Altricham and Eccles trams (you can now access it by foot though).

There is of course Berney Arms but that's only on a single line served by a single TOC.

Yes, but Berney Arms does have pedestrian (and by extension, boat) access: what it doesn't have is road access.

Lympstone Commando on Exmouth Branch has access to Commando training Depot only.

That's an interesting one, because a public cycle way has now been built between the station and the Camp which you have to cross to reach it, but the station signs still say "Passengers who alight here must only have business with the Camp.

Does British Steel Redcar still have no public access ?
Didn't Sinfin North also have no access apart from to neighbouring factories ?
What happens if you get off at these places ?
Surely the rail station IS a public space so you can get off the train and catch another from there ?

Dovey Junction has got a footpath but no road.

A Railway Station is Private Property and at places like Lympstone Cmmando it would not be wise to alight there unless you have business with the camp.

I missread the title and thought we were talking about road access.

There was talk about linking it up to the cycle way, but I am tempted to come off the cycle way, walk on the the platform and wait for a train just to see what happens.

British Steel Redcar was still no public access in March even though you can buy a ticket to it from down here or even from BSRC if using a Southern TVM.

Theres really not much else to go there for anyway.

The land around British Steel Redcar will now belong to/be controlled by SSI. I'm not exactly sure what will happen if you are found wandering around the site, but there are security patrols and you'd be picked up sooner rather than later.

I assume that Stanlow and Thornton station may be on the list, as I am led to believe that the access road at the refinery is now clsoed off to public traffic.

Off topic, but an interesting fact about this station is that it is one of a select few on NRE's website that does not have a Station Map available.

Not quite the same, but a number of the newly built tram platforms for the £100m upgraded tramway in Blackpool were built without pedestrian access. These were all in the northern section which runs on railway style track with sleepers rather than the promenade bits. Amazingly this wasn't noticed by the powers that be until after the launch and so several stops had to be closed off days after reopening! At least 1 was still closed the other day after nearly 6 weeks!

For a time, stratford international was only accessible by bus (from Stratford regional) - though there is now pedestrian access (westfield mall connects the two).

I've never been to Smallbrook junction but surely there is some road or footpath nearby that could be connected up?

From my browsing or urbex sites, I get the impression that it's unlikely the security would notice. If they did, however...

I'd rather have an organised visit rather than chancing it, or possibly getting stung for tresspassing.
