Are XC trying to stop passengers from breaking journeys at Banbury by increasing fares?

I've looked on National Rail and WebTIS. No sign of such a fare. Nothing to do with XC, the fare is set by FGW (if you select an Off Peak ticket for this flow on the National Rail site, it shows the FGW logo).

Can you upload a screenshot?

I'm guessing the good people who look after the systems pay attention to this forum as it is now indeed showing the correct fares.

From mid-morning National Rail website was reporting a £74.00 1st class fare and a £71.00 off peak return fare between Oxford & Banbury. The XC and EC websites offered no off-peak return fares only singles between the two stations.

Here we go...

Got a sample now.

Out 26th May, 09:00
Back 30th May, 16:45

Have taken a screenshot - will work out how to put it on in a minute.

It would help if people posting these sort of "stories" would post the full details. If the OP had selected the fare and scrolled down he would have found out the answer.
Why would anyone buy a £71 return when the price of two singles is far less?

When you scroll down and see the whole page with the £71 fare selected you see it is the price of a 3 in 7 Heart of England Rover.
Because there are no returns other than day returns for this flow the journey planner sees the rover as the cheapest ticket that is valid for your outward & return services.

A 7-day season is much cheaper at £44.70 though. £67.10 in first.

All very well, but it doesn't explain why a same-day off-peak return was also showing as £71/£74 earlier today.

That was not the image that you posted. That departs 26 May and returns 30 May

Indeed.

Which is why I agreed with Yorkie further back in the thread that the same day off-peak return was now showing correctly thus had been corrected.
