I can't see a downside to this?
full text:
Cheap train tickets from Cambridge to London will have fewer restrictions under the latest pricing regime announced by franchise operator Greater Anglia.

The firm, part of Dutch transport giant Abellio, is ending the evening limits on its off-peak day return tickets to Liverpool Street, meaning the return journey can be made at any time after 10am.

It is also extending its weekend-only super off-peak day return tickets to cover weekdays, although they will be restricted to trains arriving in London after noon and leaving before 3.59pm or after 7.01pm. They can still be used on any weekend train as usual.

The changes will be rolled out next Monday (May 20) and apply to Greater Anglia’s West Anglia line, which links Cambridge and London via Audley End, Newport, Elsenham, Stansted Mountfitchet, Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth.
A super off-peak period return would be nice as well, but we can't have it all, can we?

So they end up with a similar day ticket regime to SWT, as far as I can see.

I think a few people reckoned that SWT's weekday super-offpeak restrictions would eventually migrate elsewhere - of course what SWT did was to jack up the offpeak fare and then bring in the super offpeak at the original price. GA don't seem to be doing that, or are they...

The above article is incorrect. Greater Anglia are not "lifting" certain Off-Peak restrictions. They don't price those tickets! (They are priced by FCC).

All Greater Anglia are doing is introducing "GA Only" fares - some of which are the same ticket types as the "Any Permitted" tickets but with fewer restrictions.

I'm not complaining - it's great that they are doing this and I am pleasantly surprised. But their actions are not as "innocent" or fantastic as the article makes out, as these are fares which can be withdrawn at any time and which give GA a higher percentage of revenue (i.e. 100%).

On the GE, I guess the sting in the tail is the 15.2% increase in off-peak day returns. eg. Wickford to Liverpool Street is currently £15.80. Next week it will be £18.20. And as far as I can see, we are not getting a super off-peak fare. (Although I stand to be corrected).

If they keep increasing the off-peak fare at this rate, it will soon be more expensive than the peak fare (remains £21.70).

Are you sure? From Cambridge there's already GA only tickets, that have existed for a long time (certainly existed under 'one'), from the stations south of Cambridge GA are the only operator.

Actually, Tribute and the Fares Finder says otherwise. As just about any location on the Greater Anglia network that has a CDR to/from London Terminals is changing to D1 restriction (after 09:29)

Thing is though, through tickets from my own station MKC apparently remain as J8. Which I don't think is right that the trunk should change and a connecting route remains the same.

Current prices:
Cambridge - London off peak day return (any permitted) : £22.20
Cambridge- London off peak day return (GA only): £18.60

After the change in restrictions- the GA only fare rises by 40p, a 2.15% rise
The GA-only Super Off Peak is currently £14.70, after the relaxation in restrictions it appears to DROP to £14.40
