Good afternoon

Does anyone have any info on what the XC HST diagrams are scheduled to be from this month's timetable change? Will there be all 4 weekday diagrams operating throughout the week, bearing in mind the utilisation of Voyagers on Weymouth Olympic trains?

Also, what will the summer Saturday diagrams be? Last year there were two out and back diagrams to/from Paignton from Leeds/Glasgow, a Leeds-Penzance return service and the Dundee-Newquay.

A hired in EMT HST on the Manchester-Newquay would be nice!

I'm not sure there is a 'big bang' timetable change this year, althought you're of course right that some changes are likely while the Weymouth services operate.

A hired in EMT HST on the Manchester-Newquay would be nice!

Seeing as Manchester XC crews don't sign HSTs this seems highly unlikely. If one is hired in (and remember EMT have fewer HSTs than in the past), it'd surely go onto the current XC HST routes, allowing doubled up Voyagers on the Manchester services.

I'm sure someone with actual facts will be along before too long!

Same Weekday ones as now, except 1V64 won't be an HST on Fridays. XC have operated either 2 HSTs all year or 4 HSTs all year for the last four years or so, not 2 in the Winter and 2 in the Summer. Saturday diagrams will be the same as last year.

No need for it, that service is always empty.

It's fair to say the 'summer' for the additional HST services that used to run using hire-ins didn't used to run for the whole 'summer' timetable anyway.

IIRC they basically ran for around 10 weeks (probably organised around the school holidays) most years, didn't they?

Mon-Fri diagrams remain the same, bar 1V64 which is a double voyager throughout on a friday instead.

Saturday diagrams are same as last year.

1V48 0740 York to Penzance
1E75 1625 Penzance to Leeds

1V44 0600 Leeds to Paignton
1S51 1234 Paignton to Glasgow Ctl

1V54 0632 Dundee to Newquay
2P86 1955 Newquay to Plymouth

1V52 0601 Glasgow Ctl to Paignton
1E67 1634 Paignton to Leeds

Sunday diagrams are same as now, but with the following change:

2C64 0901 Plymouth to Newquay
1S53 1135 Newquay to Edinburgh

They ran on the first two weekends of the new timetable, not the first Sunday though, which were the two weekends of school half terms and then didn't run through June, but I believe they started again on the first weekend of July, running until the last weekend in August or first weekend in September.

Cheers for the info guys. Yes, this arrangement was in place in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 timetables. Two HST's were hired from the then MML and GNER/EC TOC's. The Manchester-Newquay was a MML HST, as was the Newcastle-Newquay, with the GNER ones doing Newquay-Newcastle and Paignton-Newcastle.

Is there not much call now for XC HST's to operate the Newquay trains, given only one of last and this years Newquay diagrams is a HST? Then again, who wants to go to Newquay anyway? It's a chav and booze infested s***hole!

Cheers for posting the diagrams, although I suspect I won't find them too useful during my ALR, unless they're running on any weekend in June.

What on earth does this mean? Does anyone else find it annoying when other posters write headcodes without train descriptions assuming that everybody knows what they mean?

Well considering I am not the only one who has wrote '1V64' with no description, bit unfair to pick on me... <( Especially considering I was on my phone at the time...

 - Could always ask for a description!

FYI - 1V64 is the 1306 Edinburgh to Plymouth.

2008 and 2009 were similar as well, NXEC sets hired in on those dates but with XC sets running throughout the year.

There isn't really much call for the HSTs to Newquay any more, the services are all pretty lightly loaded nowadays.

With the proliferation of open access train time sites nowadays it isn't hard to find out.
http://headcodes.info/

Typing the headcode into that site will bring you up some options for trains, should be easy to work it out from there.

No sign of the XC HSTs running to aberdeen then. Its been a while since they ran to aberdeen, last time it was 2008/09 I think

Last time they ran to Aberdeen was when they still had Valentas and only two sets, end of 2008 I believe, it was when there was a block in the East Midlands that meant all services took 30 minutes longer. Most services from Plymouth and Bournemouth went to Newcastle or Manchester, and the trains from Bristol went to Edinburgh. An HST was booked everyday on the 0640 Plymouth-Aberdeen and 0900 Glasgow Central-Plymouth.

XC HST's will still have gone from Aberdeen more recently because of engineering works, but there are no booked HST diagrams to go there

Yes, Feb/March last year I think when Taunton-Exeter was closed at weekends. The 0820 Aberdeen-Penzance on Saturdays was formed of an XC HST and ran as far as Taunton, where it returned as the 1854 Taunton-Leeds which normally starts from Plymouth at 1723. This would be for stock positioning purposes to enable a set to be at Leeds for a scheduled Sunday morning working to the SW.

Once upon a time, the Newquay trains required the use of an HST because the Voyagers had insufficient space to accommodate all the surfboards...

Maybe now the surfers prefer to travel on FGW's more regular HST services instead???

Or alternatively, the surfers have discovered that fares priced by XC are too expensive, meaning that most of them now drive to Newquay :p

That's probably more like it!

One Saturday in July last year, I travelled on the Manchester-Newquay between Exeter and Plymouth which was formed of a 5 coach Voyager. The train was probably no more than about 75% full and there wasn't much problem finding a seat- had 2 seats to myself in fact!

For anyone who wants to know 1V46 (0632 York to Plymouth) and the return 1S53 (1323 Plymouth to Edinburgh) is booked a HST instead of a Voyager this forthcoming Tuesday (22/5).

Also for anyone not aware, it is booked a HST every weekday from the 25/6 till middle of september (14th I recall).

That's correct - the FGW all-lines timetable says that service will be worked by an HST.

@ Tew, they all seem right to me, apart from the one Saturday diagram. The train does go back as the 16:25 Penzance - Leeds, but starts in York as the 7:44 York - Penzance.

Mods: Can we add this data into frequently requested diagrams please? (It's locked for editing)

Does that mean that the 0927 SO Newquay to Dundee is a Voyager? If so would it be single or double? Thanks!

Seemed to be a double voyager yesterday (second one locked out of use) when we passed it in one of the passing loops between St Blazey and Newquay. Front of the train pretty empty. I was on the 8:57 Plymouth - Newquay FGW HST, which was also lightly-loaded.

Does anyone know the numbers of the HST power cars operating the 12.23 Plymouth-Glasgow today.
