Where do the last two Manchester/Bournemouth trains stable overnight and where do the first ones in the morning, from Southampton Central, come from?

Eastleigh, including the unit that starts and terminates at Guildford, works ECS via Fareham, Havant and Haslemere, passes Fareham about 05.15 every morning en route to Guildford.

At least 8 units stable at Eastleigh. There are ECS runs spread over about 3 hours every morning to 5 different origins, ie Guildford, Reading, Southampton, Bournemouth and Winchester.

In another thread, someone mentioned the one way service in the down direction that terminates at Eastleigh, AFAICT there is no pathing reason why the 0801 ex Winchester service couldn't start at Eastleigh and form the opposite working?

Because starting a service at Winchester and terminating one at Eastleigh were decided on at different times :P

(The Eastleigh one used to go nonstop round the houses to Southampton via Andover for pathing/route knowledge reasons, plus so they could say it was six new Soton services rather than five; until they realized that they were carting fresh air south of Basingstoke as it got overtaken by three other trains.)

This popped up rather nicely for a question I had on the same subject... Where does the stock for 0600 LDS - PLY, 0615 LDS - SOU and 0632 YRK - PLY stable? Neville Hill? And what of the 0625, 0644 and 0725 ex Newcastle? Tyne Yard?

Yes, as far as I am aware those three all come from Neville Hill, although willing to be corrected!

I know the XC HSTs are kept at Neville Hill.

Edinburgh Craigentinny is the normal base, one is stabled at Neville Hill on weekdays with two stabled there on weekends. Plymouth Laira is used to stable them on occasions as well and Penzance Long Rock has been used in the past. Voyagers stable at Crofton Depot and Tyne Yard when starting at Leeds/York and Newcastle respectively.

A look at Open Train Times for Tamworth will show a number of XC Voyagers bound for Barton Under Needwood Rsmd. Mainly between 22.15 and 23.50. Some Virgin Voyagers too! There is a similar procession in the mornings with the occasional triple sets running. Could give nightmares to some posters!

Barton Under Needwood, better known as Central Rivers is the Voyagers home depot so where feasible they'll stable there, all Voyagers that end at Birmingham do.

Central Rivers (Barton Under Needwood) is the home depot for all Voyager units, all services that start/terminate at Birmingham, Sheffield or Derby will go here. There is also an empty stock on weekday mornings which travels to Reading.

Voyagers that start/terminate at Leeds or York will run ECS to Crofton

HSTs that start/terminate at Leeds or York will run ECS to Neville Hill - There are normally 2 sets stabled here every night, although this varys on the amount that are running in service.

Voyagers that terminate at Newcastle will run ECS to Tyne Yard.

Voyagers and HSTs that start/terminate at Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Dundee will go to Edinburgh Craigentinny - There are normally 3 HST sets stabled here every night.

Voyagers units that start/terminate at Bristol Temple Meads or Bath Spa will go to Bristol Barton Hill.

Voyagers and HSTs that start/terminate at Plymouth or Paignton will go to Plymouth Laira.

Voyagers that start/terminate at Penzance will go to Penzance Long Rock.

Voyagers that start/terminate at Guildford, Eastleigh, Bournemouth or Southampton will go to Eastleigh.

Are the centre sidings at Bournemouth not used? Or are they just used as a turnback so they can change platforms?

Just for turnback, as far as I am aware nothing is stabled in them at all - not even SWT.

Would be a bit odd for SWT to stable anything there given that their main depot for the area is less than a mile away...

Three Bridges used to be another XC stabling place.

I knew that thanks. The point was just that there's no obvious reason (to me) that the morning train couldn't start at Eastleigh.
