As part of a commute I do most days, I have to cross the East Coast Main Line just before Werrington Junction.

There's a existing signal (P493 which is 4 aspect signalling) on the Down Fast allows signalling moves to be routed along the Down Fast or across onto the Joint Line towards Lincoln however there's a newer 2 aspect signal about two feet behind the existing signal which is covered and marked O/O/U.

Don't suppose anyone knows when the newer signal is likely to enter service?

Also curious to know why the change from the 4 Aspect signal to the 2 Aspect signal, I know a lot of the newer signals are LEDs in the area but still anyone able to answer my query please?

Although it only has two heads, it is still four aspect. The normal set up is that the bottom lamp will show red, green or yellow, and the top one yellow only when needed for the double yellow aspect.

You'll probably find that the two heads are separated by the same distance as a normal double yellow, so that the driver gets a similar indication.

As you can now see, in a three aspect area there will usually now only be one LED head.
