Hi there. Some friends are over from Germany and I went to London with them today. Big delays at Waterloo due to emergency services dealing with an incident at Wimbledon. Has someone been injured? It's going on until end of service.. Does anyone know any more?

The only luck I have is that I'm not at work because normally I would be travelling back from Harrow and that has 60 minute delays due to overhead wire problems. Apparently according to National Rail Enquiries it's just affecting London Midland and Virgin. Surprised not Southern as they also use the overhead wires.

1. The incident at Wimbledon involved a female needing to be removed by the emergency services after threatening to commit suicide and running on a ledge in the vicinity of the powered tracks. They were successfully removed whilst the power was turned off. The incident was resolved at 1620hrs, power was restored just before 1631hrs and trains are now moving with delays of up to 55 minutes. There have been intermittent minor signalling problems at Waterloo recently, but none are occurring at present.

2. The problem with the overhead lines is closer to Euston, as far as I know, and is not affecting LOROL or SN.

Unfortunately the 17.00 hadn't left by the time I arrived at 17.40 due to waiting train drew. No room.

So myself and three friends, one of whole six went to subway and waited. Eventually a platform for 17.30 and we headed to it.

Unfortunately it only had 8 carriages and there was no way we could get on.

As I didn't think my friends wanted to go back down to the subway and I didn't know what time the next train was, as nothing on the subway boards, we got on a train to Southampton on the opposite platform. It had free seats.
Whilst on the train I think a fast train to Guildford may have left before us and whilst at Woking, a fratton train zoomed through. In hindsight I should have made my friends go back down the subway and hoped a train was on the board.

Very difficult to know what to do, as information is probably not always so well known until late by the people trying to run he best service they can.

I'm glad no one was killed and I hope get the help they need.

And too add to all this, There was a signalling failure outside Wallers Ash this evening which backed up everything heading northbound all the way to Southampton - It took nearly 40 minutes in the end just to get from Winchester to Basingstoke!

I helped test the Signalling at Waterloo, must've been around 1990 or 91.

Today was yet again another absolute nightmare on SWT... Severe signalling problems at Axminster this morning leading to SWT truncating the service at Axminster, Then this afternoon Eastleigh PSB had severe problems, combined with the shutting down of Basingstokes 'wonderfull' signalling centre - This then of course led to stock and staff in all the wrong places again services completley up the spout.

Even after buying an hour or so by heading down to a pub near the ferry terminal, i arrived back to a very limited service heading up northbound, so in the end it worked out simpler to get a delayed FGW service to Salisbury and wait for another delayed SWT Service to Basingstoke.

Overall not another good day on the South Western...

I got caught up in this, I got to Waterloo station, saw delays to Southampton services so decided to check NRE which showed delays of up to an hour between Basingstoke and Eastleigh, ended up getting a Pompey train and changing at Havant, turns out the delays had finished by the time I got to Woking, so could have changed there and got in about 30 minutes earlier but didn't want to risk it.

I arrived at Bstoke from reading at about 18:10 just as trains began running again. An empty train was brought into platform 1 from the carriage sidings consisting of a couple of class 159s but the announcement said i was going to Porstmouth Harbour, so about a hundred people charged down the subway from Plat 2 (the usual Ports platform) and swarmed on board. However even before it pulled out a class 444 pulled in to platform 2 also destined for Ports Harbour and the two trains more or less left together. I hope the announcement was correct or a lot of angry people got off the DMU in Salisbury!
(At least they could get home directly via Romsey)
