interesting the mention of Stansted Express- does that mean that someone travelling in from Bishops Stortford (or other stations on the line where they stop) would have to use a train starting at Kings Lynn, Ely, Cambridge or Stortford if they want to use the travelcard plus a Boundary Zone 6 ticket?

I think the context is within Zones 1-9. There is no reason why a Games Travelcard combined with a Boundary Zone 6 - Stansted Airport ticket is barred from travelling on Greater Anglia services branded as Stansted Express. Similarly there is no reason why one cannot use a Games Travelcard plus a Boundary Zone 6 - Gatwick Airport ticket on a Southern service branded as Gatwick Express.

Olympic Games Travelcards issued to event ticket holders are valid for the day of the event concerned in zones 1 to 9 including Watford Junction and the Javelin service and also to four national rail stations closest to outlying venues. They are mentioned on a similar thread on the Underground section on here. The are only valid in conjunction with the relevant Olympic Event Ticket.

Actually where it is listed on the Underground section it isn't an obvious thread so will list them here as well :

Sevenoaks (for Brands Hatch)
Slough (for Eton Dorney)
Leigh-on-Sea (for Hadleigh Farm)
Cheshunt (for Lee Valley White Water Centre)

Obviously there's the usual issue regarding Gatwick Express and ticketing, but I read it as an attempt to ban Airport-BZ6 ticket + Olympic Travelcard travel. Not one that is likely to succeed against well informed travellers, but enough to put off/scam most people.

I read it as a poorly worded warning that the tickets weren't valid for airports unless it was on the Picadilly line. People coming from afar might think that a London travelcard is valid at all London airports.

Quite - how dare they try to apply logic and crystal clear english to our transport system!

I take it these things have validity for the full day just like any other Travelcard (notwithstanding any peak restrictions that may come into play)? I think I would like to take advantage of having a free Travelcard to clear what I haven't yet done on TfL lines :)

It also clearly states Zones >>123456789<<, as was said when this thread was active previously, so this at least wouldn't be a problem.

£20 for two football matches at Wembley, one of which involves Team GB, and a Travelcard for Zones 1-9? Bargain! :D

The only problem is that it also states that it is valid only when seen with the event ticket, and it might look a bit odd using it on the Tram in New Addington in both directions with a ticket that is clearly for use at Wembley.

Well, only London City and London Heathrow are in London. Gatwick has quite properly dropped the "London" from its name. The other three shouldn't be including it.

Logic is calling an airport miles away from London 'London XXX Airport'. I... don't know what to say about Heathrow Connect/Express not accepting travelcards though - IMO Connect probably should but Express? *shrug* :)

Airport Junction to Heathrow is not part of the National Rail network, they can set their own rules and it's a purely commercial decision by BAA whether or not to accept travelcards. Presumably they've costed it and decided that any additional passengers they might gain by accepting travelcards aren't worth the loss in revenue per passenger from not being able to charge their inflated fares.

Southend, Luton and which third one, please? Isn't Heathrow technically in Middlesex?

The county of Middlesex was abolished in 1965, the majority becoming part of Greater London and small parts becoming Hertfordshire and Surrey. Technically Heathrow is within Greater London, in LB Hillingdon. At the time of its construction however it was in Middlesex.

Going OT here, but....
The airline codes are issued by IATA (International Air Travel Association).
There is an IATA designator of "LON" which is the group code for "all London airports". IATA include these airports in their "LON" group.
LHR LGW LCY LTN STN and BQH.

I'll receive my tickets soon, with complimentary Travelcard, and will be travelling from outside the Travelcard area.

In principle, I think I could buy a (home town within NSE zone) to Boundary Zone 6 Super Off-Peak Day Return, and use this combination on non-stopping trains.

Is this correct, and would I be likely to encounter any practical problems in actually buying this ticket in practice?

In practice, however, it is five pence cheaper for me to simply buy the designed 'Olympic tickets' from the National Rail Games Travel website, so I suspect I'll do that instead.

Are there published restrictions to the Olympic Travelcards saying "Only valid when travelling between an Olympic event (as shown on the accompanying Olympic event icket) and XXX". If so, what is XXX ?

I would hazard a guess that there is not, although I do not have a Games Travelcard in my possession.

It would be absurd if the ticket-holder can only use the travelcard when going to/from the event. Many visitors would prefer to have a look around London and probably visit other places in London and it would be quite silly to tell them that they cannot do that.

In addition, this would be impossible to enforce if so anyway.

I would like to copy part of my post (#15), which everyone seems to have ignored:
