I can see the vast majority of the weekday services are Class 14X operated, is this the same at weekends?

Just wondering if there are any Class 15x's working these services either solo or with a Class 14X?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, :)

0819 departure from Scunthorpe is worked by a 153, arrives Sheffield 0941 and Lincoln at 1106. I believe that's the only regularly diagrammed 15X working during the week - though it's not unknown for 150s or 153s to turn up on other workings.

I've not used the service on Sundays for quite awhile, but this sometimes used to throw up a 158, or a 3-car 144. Can't say anything for definite on that though.

Mainly 14xs but someone who was local said that 15xs were turning up more often. 15xs also on the Cleethorpes - Sheffield Saturday services now as well.

That 08:19 is Class 153 operated between Monday to Friday, would it be a safe bet it's the same on Saturdays?

I've already done Scunthorpe to Sheffield via Doncaster so it's really only Sheffield to Lincoln via Worksop I need to do.

Expect two hours of pacer fun then :) Unless you are lucky and get a 150,153 or maybe even very lucky with a 158. (although I prefer northerns 150's to their 158's as they are usually a little cleaner

I've done Paignton - Exeter St Davids - Exmouth - Exeter St Davids - Barnstaple - Exeter St Davids on a Class 142 before which was about 3 hours, so I think I can survive.......

You'd have enjoyed the old 06.56 Middlesbrough - Carlisle service which was booked as a 142, and took exactly 3 hours.

I'm sure it was booked for a 14x on a Saturday, until recently at least. Either way, it's not as predictable as Mon to Fri - in the week, the train's formed of the empty unit from the previous day's Barton service, so is (almost!) guaranteed to be a 153.

I don't think I've ever seen a Northern 158 in Lincoln. It's usually 14x's and the odd 150 or 153 if you're lucky.

It was only one, in two years of living there. was on the day when the Lincoln - Newark line was closed due to a fatality. If that was intentional or not is unknown though :)

They used to always work the 1625 service from Lincoln to Hull, but this ceased a few years back and it's now a 14x working. Before the 158s arrived it was a guaranteed 156. Much missed!

That'll be why I haven't seen a Northern 158 here... :D

Off topic but does anyone know if EMT have finally got round to repainting that 156 that was running round in Northern colours?

I take it that this 15x works a shuttle service between Barton-On-Humber and Cleethorpes all day then stables somewhere before working the 08:19 Scunthorpe to Lincoln via Sheffield and Worksop.

Easy enough for me to check what's been allocated to the above service via TRUST but then again, it's easy enough for a unit swap to happen :(

The second service is usually a Class 142/144, with the first & last being a Class 153 (the first is used to swap the Barton-on-Humber units over on Saturdays).

I take it that this 15x works a shuttle service between Barton-On-Humber and Cleethorpes all day then stables somewhere before working the 08:19 Scunthorpe to Lincoln via Sheffield and Worksop.

On weekdays, a Class 153 will run from Doncaster to Cleethorpes as 5F83 (departs Donny at 05:30, and forms the 07:00 Cleethorpes to Barton-on-Humber (the 06:00 Cleethorpes - Barton-on-Humber is a Class 185), and shuttles back & forth all day, ending just before 23:00, stabling at Cleethorpes overnight. The next day (still only on weekdays), the same unit will work as 5P61 Cleethorpes to Scunthorpe (departs Cleethorpes at 07:30), and forms 2P61, the 08:19 Scunthorpe to Lincoln via Sheffield service.

On Saturdays, the Class 153 will run 2 round trips from Cleethorpes to Barton-on Humber (07:00 & 08:55), and then form 2H00, the 11:10 Cleethorpes to Sheffield via Brigg (Saturdays-only Parliamentry service). In it's place, a Class 153 works 2H03, the 08:03 Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg service, and take over the Barton-on-Humber shuttles from the 10:55 off Cleethorpes. No swapover happens on Sundays.

We've discussed this a couple of times before!

There were four 156s that were transferred from Northern.

156473 and 156498 have already been refurbished and repainted.

156497 was running around a week or so ago still in Northern colours. I'm unsure about 156470 - possibly now in for refurbishment?

A Northern liveried EMT 156 arrived at Neville Hill this morning if that's any help?

I've had a 158 plenty of times on Sunday afternoon/evenings! That's the best bet for getting a 158 on the line!

I saw a Northern class 158 heading to Lincoln at Retford a few weeks ago. I thought it was a Pacer at first- until I saw the distinctive shape of their roof!

I was surprised to see it. I also noticed that the headlights didn't seem very bright.

At the Lincoln end - weekdays it's all pacers except the 1 diagram mentioned. Of the nine diagrams, booked are 1 153, 7 142's and 1 2 car 144, although the reality is more fluid on the variety of pacers, and 150's can appear. There is also a pair of 142's on one turn, and another pair of apcers on the first train from Lincoln in the morning, although these split or go elsewhere on arrival at Sheffield.

On Saturdays, that 153 diagram is booked a 142, and there are no booked sprinter diagrams, although 150's do appear vice pacers.

On Sundays, there is a booked 158 diagram and 3 car 144's can appear too.

More details on this, and the rest of the Northern network and diagrams can be found in the May 2012 Today's Railways UK.

Yea, every single set of 158 headlights I've seen look like they could be outshone by a candle.

Interesting to know that 158s other than East Midlands Trains' units make it all the way out here, I shall have to keep my eyes open. :D
