I'm booked to travel in first with Virgin on the 13th of July 2012, Warrington Bank Quay to Edinburgh.

The train is the 07:27 from Warrington (06:19 from Birmingham New Street) and is a Pendolino.

What can I expect food wise and how does it compare to East Coast?

Full English or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, followed by croissant or (sometimes and) toast. In my opinion just as good as East Coast.

EDIT: According to the timetable, breakfast is not served on that service after Crewe! However that service is usually a Voyager, so the breakfast service may change along with the train. (The 05:39 from Euston - a Pendolino - has a breakfast service until Oxenholme).

I've been served a full breakfast from Carlisle on the 0539 off Euston.

I'm going with it being a Pendolino as I've got a seat reservation for first class in coach J.

Yes, it's definitely a Pendolino during the peak July/August season. I'm travelling on it during July and have a reservation in Coach H.

I'll just wait and see, it was slightly cheaper than traveling in first with TPE for times to suit me, so it can't really be bad either way.

I just love these - "what do I get" .....on 1st class. A permemant query which ought to be replaced with a "sticky".

I appreciate it is a real treat for many - but you get a much better breakfast for less than a fiver in many a good caff !

Well it was £45 for the equivalent standard class advance ticket, or £25 for the first class advance ticket, I wonder which I was going to get :p

The problem with that is that it varies so much. For example, Virgin have three different offerings on a weekly cycle, which completely change every 6 months. The First Class offering can also depend on the type of train (admittedly this only applies to Virgin), whose trains seem to swap round every few weeks!

Very true , I did a cheapo to Bham the other day and it was a 221 vice a 390 - the "regulars" expected the full English grill , - but the offer was different - with a rather attractive bacon Paninini - whereas the 390 offers a bacon or sausage roll.

(personally like the option on FGW where you can choose a breakfast off the Travelling Chef , depending on what you can afford / fancy !)

Fair play -there are some good deals around.
