TPE stated recently that the new class 170s will be completed by March, but this seems a very long time. How heavy are the modifications that are being made, and has any progress been made so far?

In fact, have all the 170s come up here yet?

i would have thought that the new TPx turbostars would be getting some pretty heavy mods.
i mean FTpx aint gonna let them into service with an SWT interior...
and thy wil want them reliveried.. they will need coupler modifications as i think i remember reading that they may have to be able to couple to a 185 in an emergency.. if not then they would need to have an emergency coupler built and stowed on board...
not to mention any requirements for doo if it isnt already fitted.. i dont know what FTPx and SWT's stance on DOO is...

Yer it was only 301 and 302 that went up, as 303 is at salisbury and 304 is on the romsey services today!

They'll also probably want to fit that annoying auto announcer...

They are to operate in SWT livery minus branding until introduction.

IIRC the 185s have an emergency coupling adaptor on board but can only be used (as the name states) for emergencies as speed is limited when using it.

There is no issue over DOO. Never has been. All TPX services have a guard.

By the way it is no longer 'First Transpennine Express', simply 'Transpennine Express'.

They would need serious mods to have the 170's, which have BSI's, retro fitted with Dellners, afaik, it would not be a "simple" job of just changing the coupler. So emergency BSI to Dellner seem sensible.... (afaik even some Dellners are not compatible with each other! )

They'll also probably want to fit that annoying auto announcer...

ANNOYING??? How dare you Jordy....

Is it? They still seem to be branded "fTPE" on the trains and stations.... but i suppose when the franchise first started it was "First Keolis Transpennine Express", and the "Keolis" but soon got dropped, with just the "i" on the Transpennine being the same "i" from the Keolis logo....

They were fTPE until November '06 when they changed it back to TPE

Yeah Keolis bosses were unhappy. It sounds so much better without the 'First' anyway ;) (although the in-train announcements sound a bit patchy now).

Yep. Keolis kicked up a fuss forcing the name change from FTPE to just TPE. Although, this hasn't affected the 'First Transforming Travel' logos being used; it is just the name of the operator that is affected...although this hasn't filtered through to some stations yet with trains still being announced as First Transpennine Express.

Well done to Keolis IMHO, First are getting too big for their boots.
