Is the Strathclyde PTE Daytripper ticket valid to Ardlui?

I don't work that route (do travel on it as a pax from time to time) but I tentatively do think it is valid. I'll confirm one way or t'other in a moment when I can find my fares handbook.

Standby................

................well no map or boundary stations shewn in my booklet :(.

Still Adlui is in the former Strathclyde Region and is shewn on the national rail link map from your post so it does look like it is included.

p.s. A few years back I travelled with my Mum with a Daytripper. Croy to Gourock by train, ferry to Kilcreggan, bus to Garelochhead, train from there back to Croy - no questions asked - no problems - you'll be fine.

I'd double check... reason being is that the sort of weekly/monthly equivalent of the daytripper is the "zonecard" and according to the map you can only go as far as Garelochhead

http://www.spt.co.uk/cms/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/zonecard_map.pdf

That of course may be incorrect with regards to a daytripper ticket and could be the reason why the NRE site doesnt state the stations mentioned earlier. NRE may not have 100% accurate information.

Best advice I could give would be to call Scotrail but I'm sure reb0118's inside info is probably worth adhering to also?

Found this map also:-

Daytripper_Map

Should help to clarify

Pedant Alert*Pedant Alert. Although Adlui is shewn on the map it is not clear that it is valid from the map as it is shewn on a black open line similar to the black open lines shewn beyond the SPT boundaries on other areas of the map. This is similar to nearby Arrochar & Tarbert and Barrhill in Ayrshire. Now Ardlui, Arrochar, & Barrhill are all in the former Strathclyde area and their successor Unitary Authorities are members of SPT but the way they are shewn on this map infers to me that they are not in the SPT area. This map in my view is confusing - please note also the map is out of date as it does not shew the new station on the A-B extension i.e. Caldercruix. Pedant Alert* All Clear

Sorry I'm in to maps in a big way (:() and hate to see poorly presented info. Not having a go at ramamfi.

Thanks for all that dudes. I've downloaded and printed out the Daytripper leaflet from the SPTE website and it clearly shows Ardlui as being included. Now for a nice evening spin out there :)

If joining at a station with no ticket office, given the ticket cannot be purchased on train, what would one do?

If travelling at short notice with no time to have the ticket sent out to you then you can purchase a "Daytripper Exchange" from the Guard or TE as appropriate.

The origin would be the station that you boarded at (as long as in the SPT area) and the destination should be "Daytripper Exchange". This can then be exchanged at the first booking office passed for the correct ticket.

Make sure you get charged the correct fare for the exchange: £10.70 for one adult & two children or £19 for two adults & four children.

Cheers.

Would it not be easier just for guards to be able to sell the ticket? Or is it not in the conventional ticket format?

Wonder if SPT have considered also selling it via ticket machines on standard stock, much like Merseytravel did with the Saveaway?

And like WYPTE with the Dayrover which comes in both standard ticket and scratch 'n' sniff versions from Post Offices and bus stations.

It's been a while since I've seen an original but I think they come as scratchcards - they are a lot bigger than normal train tickets too. One thing I do remember though is that I couldn't buy one for my Mum with a debit card at Croy due to "accounting reasons" - cash only.

And annoyingly "bus and train" versions are not available to buy on train which is annoying when your local station is unstaffed. and your nearest bus station only has scratch ones that expire at the end of 2012 so you don't want to stock up too much.

I bought a daytripper last weekend at Port Glasgow and used my debit card to pay for it without any problems, and I can also confirm they are still way bigger than a normal train ticket. I assume I had new stock because 2014 was an option on the ticket.

As much as I like the daytripper from a value for money point of view they should be a little more user friendly. They're sometimes too big for your pockets and also obviously cant be used to get through ticket barriers in train stations, resulting in having to go and hunt down staff to let you through... If only they were issued on normal stock like travelcards bought in london NR stations and id be happy!

The Saveaways (scratch-card ones) used to be quite big, about double or so more than a normal ticket.

Come to think of it, the scratch 'n' sniff WY Day Rover is quite big as well. Fits in my pocket though. Either BrianTheLion has very tight trousers or I've bought mine from a clown.

Its about the same width across as a credit card, but about almost 3 times the length of a credit card. (sorry I dont have a ruler handy)

They did, & only the last few years Merseytravel have done the standard Rail Ticket stock for Saveaways, it was only a scratch off ticket.

WMPTE have Rail standard Tickets as well as scratch off ones, although i've never brought a scratch off version, & WMPTE Tickets can be brought on buses as well.

I'm sure the first time I ever used a Saveaway it was the day before the standard stock ones were coming out, so had to settle for the scratchcard one. Bit of a faff trying to fit it in a wallet and at the barriers at Lime Street.
