This tour is already more than 30 mins late, and has just gone through Wem. Didn't get a good look but it appeared that a change of motive power might be part of the reason...looked like a blue large logo Class 50 on the front? Apologies if I'm wrong, but it certainly wasn't the intended Class 47 (one of these was on the back). Somebody managed to find time to decorate the leading loco with Union Flags though! Hope the rest of the tour goes better than the first bit...

According to TRUST, it definitely is a Class 47 on the front! 47580, which has recently been repainted in BR blue with a Union Jack flag on the sides. Also, the train was running to time, passed Wem only 2 minutes late according to the schedule. Are you referring to the approximate times off Statesman Rail's website? Never refer to those times as the gospel truth, as they are only provisional up to a couple of weeks before the tour, when the actual times *should* be on the website. However, not all railtour companies do this.

Last report shows departed Crewe at 09:40, 20 minutes late.

My apologies, it must have been a 47 - like I say I only got a glimpse, and I was distracted by the colour! All the 47s which have been through here recently (mostly positioning moves as far as I can tell) have been maroon until now.

And you're right, I was working off the timings shown on the Statesman website - how do I get more accurate information? There's nothing shown for this train on either the Railway Herald or Railtourinfo websites, and rail.staging.swlines isn't showing charters at present.
