Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn't see it.
On a Sunday afternoon in August, I'll be coming back into Paddington from Heathrow, and don't want to pay Heathrow Express prices, or take the tube. If I buy a single at Heathrow to Hayes & Harlington for £5.20 on Heathrow Connect, how do I activate my Oyster card at H & H without getting off and waiting for the next train?

Hate to say it but I think you will have to get off at Hayes and Harlington to activate your oyster card.

Are you asking if there is a convenient Oyster card validator on the platform at H&H?

May I ask where your final destination is? I took the Piccadilly line back from Heathrow recently and it wasn't all too bad - Paddington is one of the worst placed London Terminals for most people.

Thanks for the prompt replies folks.
I asked initially cos' I've just ordered our first Oyster cards and we're from out of area, so not to sure of the fine details of their usage. Final destination is Euston, and as you say, tube might not be a bad option, comes out at 56 mins total for £2.90 on Oyster. Which probably won't be vastly different to the train by the time we've swapped from rail to tube and lugged our cases, plus there's a tube every 5 mins, as opposed to train every 30 mins on HC.

TBH i'd just get the Piccaddilly Line to Kings X and get out there. It's probably about the same journey as changing for Euston.

Seconded. Plus a good chunk of that piccadilly line journey is above the surface.

I think I would be tempted to change from the Piccadilly to the H&C or Circle at Hammersmith and use Euston Square. I know it means crossing the road at Hammersmith but it does end up closer to the final destination and is hardly a bad change.

If your heading to Euston then consider this option :

Piccadilly line - Heathrow - Green Park
Victoria line - Green Park - Euston

Without luggage I agree this might work BUT Green Park is a god-awful change with luggage and involves changes of level.....

I had thought of suggesting:

Heathrow to Hammersmith - Piccadilly line
Hammersmith to Victoria - District line (a VERY easy change)
Victoria to Euston - Victoria line (this too involves a change of level).

So long as the luggage fits on an escalator step I'd advise changing at Green Park, but *not* following the signs to the Victoria Line. Instead follow the signs towards the exit at Green Park. When you can see the exit gates, instead of going forward through them turn left and start following the signs to the Victoria Line. It's far easier than the signed route with luggage.

If you alight from the front set of doors in the rear carriage at Hayes and Harlington, I believe there is a conveniently located touch in reader on the platform there and you may be able to jump back on the same train. Wouldn't rely on it though
