The on-line site www.nationalrailgamestravel.co.uk/ has allowed me a NSE Network Railcard discount when travelling from Manningtree to Stratford for a games event on a train service before 10 a.m. on a weekday. Is this likely to cause any problem?

Top left of the website reminds you must have a ticket to an Olympic event for the ticket to vaild. So I imagine when checked you may be asked to present your games ticket. You can buy almost much any type of discounted ticket online but you still need to produce the appropriate railcard on demand. I don't think you are getting a NSE discount either, but rather the same standard third off discount rate. :)

Correction: Some services are have been designated by the TOCs as 2012 Games Trains you must,as I mentioned earlier be an Olympic ticket holder to use these services. However if you have a railcard for example a NSE card you can get a futher 1/3 off the ticket prices. I hope this helps.

Have they? Is there a list of these? I'm hoping it doesn't include the 0045 out of KGX as I'm relying on that one night after giving travel advice for the Olympics (but not a ticket holder myself).

My bad!, from what the NR website implies is that the services designated are normal service trains and can be used by anyone, but you must be going to a games event to take advantage of the ticket deals. Sorry for any confusion there!

:D Yes. Thanks. My Olympic ticket is for a midweek morning event. If I take along the rail ticket, NSE card, travel itinerary print out and the Olympic ticket itself, I reckon that this should be sufficient.

Main query was as regards NSE discount being available on a pre 10 a.m. Monday to Friday train service.

Was it also being discounted below the usual £13 minimum fare?

There are some easements around there. If your train is just before 1000 it may be covered:

Yes, possibly, although as the tickets arrived as 2 x £6.75 singles (one there, one back) rather than as a day return.

You can use Network rail card with the Games 2012 rail tickets and can travel before 10am with them. I've just received all mine - not only for the days I'm going to watch an event for the Olympics and Paralympics but also for the days I'm volunteering.:D

Having just checked the staff information on Games tickets, I can confirm that normal Railcard discounts apply, but with NO Minimum Fare (16-25, Forces and Network Railcards) or Time Restrictions.

Cheers,

Barry
