According to the West Yorkshire Metro website, local services in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden will be free of charge next week to compensate passengers for the problems of the previous operator, and to give those who've not used the services an invitation to do so.

I suppose it also allows them time to transfer the licences to First.

Were these the "alphabetically" coded services that Tyrer Bus had some involvement with at one time ?

Yes.
Hebden Bridge services A, B, C, D & E.
Todmorden services T1-T6; T8 & T9
Flexibus services 1 & 2
Service 906 - the seasonal Hardcastle Craggs-Widdop service.

Apparently Tyrer Bus's involvement ends today, and next week, Metro is arranging new contracts with First and Community Bus.

Tyrer Bus are not doing all that well at present. They used to run the B10/B11 bi-directional services from Clitheroe Interchange to Slaidburn which my wife and I used quite often in 2011, but when the service was recast to run to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, they lost out to Little Red Bus.

Their Operations Manager, S.Whitehouse wrote to me on 20th December 2011 with regard to many points raised and he also rang me and seemed very disheartened then. Six months have now elapsed since that time and matters still seem no better for them. I think that they still use the premises on the Lomesheye Industrial Estate at Nelson.

I'm afraid that was the impression I had too.

The last time I rode to Blackshawhead with them, the Optare broke down at the remote terminus, and the driver had to go delving into the engine compartment at the back. He fortunately got it started again, apologising for his rather grimy condition when he returned.

More alarming was when another passenger on the bus said "I suppose they would have sent a replacement bus out to us" he replied "there isn't a spare - all the others are in for repair, too"
