The booking system is down atm so can't check for suitable advances.

The cheapest I'd guess would be:

Watford Junction - Stoke on Trent
1847 - 2105
£13.85 Super Off Peak Return (there is an easement permitting its use of the 1829 ex-EUS)
(Route; London Midland Only)

Stoke on Trent - Manchester Piccadilly
£9.75 Off Peak Return (Route any permitted)

Quickest though would be an Off Peak Return (using Virgin's railcard easement to travel at peak times). Alternatively if you don't mind paying an extra £4 or so you can change at Stafford to save some time.

FWIW I think a 350 is more comfortable than a Pendo but be aware that the 1829 ex-EUS is the last LM Trent Valley stopper so is likely to be rammed

Just so that you are aware, we cannot guarantee to find the cheapest option, due to the huge complexity of the fares system. We can however aim to find cheaper options than the through ticket.

What All Line Rover said.
I don't think the Trent Valley services are reservable so there's nothing to be gained from booking in advance (except maybe if there are often queues at Watford)

Additionally I make no claim that this is the cheapest: there may be advances from Euston for example although you'd be unable to start your journey.

Bear in mind the Super Off Peak (LM) ticket is valid only on the 1829 ex-Euston because of an easements in the restrictions.

I can't find any cheap Advance tickets except First Class Advance tickets, but these still cost significantly more than the Standard Class tickets you mentioned above.
