Something that's always interested me is that how do the internal displays work on 185s, also how are they programmed?

Also who has control of them while the train is in service as I've noticed a few times the message "**** Can a member of staff please answer the intercom**** scroll across

Also am I right in thinking that its just the way some of them are programmed whether they show the time on them or just remain blank inbetween mesages

Not sure, but it's a standard Siemens design on all Desiros that also appears elsewhere, such as SWT's 158/159s (whereas for instance Scotrail's 158s use a Turbostar-style display).

Driver bells guard on the I/C, then after the call is not answered for 10 seconds, that comes on, usually with a ping.

Other messages such as "A full ticket check will now take place" or "Please take luggage off seats" etc can be manually entered by either driver or the guard.

All audio recording is held on an SD card.

Station announcements are made automatically based on the moving train passing GPS location pegs. The guard or driver can overide/interupt announcements by pressing the 'Manual PA' button as the automatic announcement starts.

On new years eve, a few years back, just for the hell of it, some awful unproffessional guard ;) pressed the "due to a major incident, all the staff have left the train" whilst we were doing 80mph, just to see if any of the drunken passengers were actually awake. (Allegedly)

Was this the guard that always worked my services off the Airport by any chance?
