How come it won't give me one of the single seats? What ever preferences I put in it always gives me a seat next to another. I'd prefer to sit without someone sitting next to me.

I prefer East Coast's system where you can select individual seats. I'm booking using RSH.

Also why is there no option for front/rear facing seats? It gives me the same seat for the outward and return journeys.

ATM I have selected (although it's probably timed out by now) the 14.10 Euston to Chester, and the 12.35 Chester to Euston, both on a week day.

Unless the races are on in Chester those services are dead. Are you sure you want to travel First Class? Coach D (which is First Class on peak services) is declassified on both of those services. The seats are more comfortable (than Standard Class) with extra legroom and all have a table. True, the seating is 2+2, but there are normally a good few empty tables available, meaning Coach D can be nicer than Coach E!* (Or do you want to travel First Class for the booze? ;))

*Coach E (the First Class coach) has 2 bays of four, Coach D (the sometimes First sometimes Standard Class coach) has 12 bays of four. Speaks for itself. Both coaches have free Wi-Fi also.

The free stuff will be nice yes, but I thought travelling in FC would be nicer, plus I get a discount because I have a railcard, it's a long journey, and I'm on holiday so I wanted to treat myself.

I also want access to the Lounge.

Chester doesn't have a lounge, which I'm sure you know already. You could always travel First Class one way Standard Class the other to compare?

I pay extra for First Class on Pendolino's but I don't for Euston-Chester Voyagers. On the busier services where Standard Class is just about bearable, First Class costs a fortune. On the quieter services where First Class is cheap, Standard Class is half empty! :)

The single seats are airline style, direction cannot be guaranteed
Generally First Class is about 50% full southbound before Crewe, so just book any seat and then move when you board

Try removing all the options and compare

One more question. In FC during the day Virgin offer sandwiches or an "alternative snack", what sort of thing is the "alternative snack"?

I agree with All Line Rover btw; I would not pay for First Class on a EUS-CTR Voyager in the middle of the day. The food offer isn't so good, and it's difficult to get good value out of the cold drinks trolley at that time. Coach D will almost likely be dead, and the seats and table there are comfy enough anyway.
