I noticed yesterday that refurbishments have started to the Jubilee Line 1996 stock. Rather than share the same moquette as refurbished 1973 stock on the Piccadilly Line, the moquette included blue with red circle/arrows. Difficult to describe beyond that, but watch out for these next time you ride the Jubilee Line!

Aren't they using the same moquette that is being used on the 1992 stock?

It's not really a refurbishment either, just a refresh.

All Underground rolling stock, with the exception of those being withdrawn soon (A,C,D), will recieve the new moquette.
The '92 Stock have been tackled before the Olympics and the '96s are next. I think both '73 and '95 Stock will be next to get rid of the TubeLines moquette on those trains.

One thing I've noticed with the refreshed 1996 Stock is that the seats are now rock hard, literally moquette on the metal framework with no springs/padding at all!

Most of the 96ts has the same moquette as the 1973 stock hasn't it?

So is this a different one?

Yes I believe so. It would seem that the 96 stock is therefore the next to gain the new moquette, used network-wide on all stocks. The 'S' stock will be the last to gain the new moquette I think I read somewhere.

What about the 72 stock? Any news on when that will either a) get the new moquette or b) Get replaced completely with new stock. Always had a soft spot for the 72 stock now the 67 stock on the vic is gone.

You may be right about this being the same moquette as the 1992 stock. I have not been on the Central Line since last August, and even then it was the familiar moquette. As I shall be in central London and Stratford this August (no prizes for guessing why!), I shall ride the Central Line then.

The Bakerloo will be the last line to be upgraded under current plans, so towards the end of this decade is most likely when the 1972 Stock will go. That's if the current upgrade plan runs to schedule, which I hope it doesn't as I'm a big fan of the 1972 Stock as well.

I'd imagine that the 1972 Stock will also be treated to the new moquette if the current upgrade schedule remains the same. The current refurbishment dates from the early 1990s, and is starting to look very tired - a refresh wouldn't go amiss.

I believe at the Aldwych Exhibition in July 2010, one of the members of staff there said that all lines would receive the new moquette except for the 2009 and S stock (although perhaps they will as part of their mid-life refurbishment).

No one has mentioned yet on this thread that the W&C line received the new moquette as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/7068313553/

I didn't think that the S stock or 2009 stock would be given this new moquette because they were delivered too late or something like that.

A refresh on the 1972 stock is ok as long as they don't make the seats rock hard! LUL has coped with maintaining properly sprung seats for decades. What's the reason for the change? Do people really find it more comfortable?

I am the only one that finds it funny that another refurb is taking place on the 96ts before the previous one has been completed?

Yep, there are still old old moquettes on some 96s..

It's a shame they are standardising it with 'Barman', I much prefer the variety. Especially the nice red ones on the 92 stocks, with cosier lighting.

That's a shame about the seats; the original seating was one of my favourite parts of the 1996TS.

I'd imagine that Barman moquette would suit the 1972 Stock, as its current moquette, which dates from the mid-2000s I believe (it's not the original refurbishment moquette, which was grey and red), is blue and red.

I think what would've been nice though is to have used the colours of the Barman moquette, as the reds and blues do look nice, but to arrange it like the Misha Black moquette of the 1970s. A bit like what London Overground, Emirates Air-Line and Croydon Tramlink have done with their moquettes.

So carry a pillow whenever you go to the Jubilee Line for extra comfort!

Rode the 1996 stock during the Olympics and the one I caught had the new seating. Pretty comfortable I thought and the interior looked in excellent condition.

I didn't find it too comfortable - the seats are too hard IMO
