Hey guys, last friday (22nd June) was on the 20:10 FCC Peterborough fast ex-KGX (Non stop to St Neots) and was slowed approaching Hitchin and then held in the down fast. On arrival at St Neots, I saw my train had arrived about 10 minutes late, we departed on time from Kings Cross, so I assume this was the cause of the delay. Can anyone confirm this? And if so why was I held? Next to me on the northbound platform at Hitchin was a 313, I assumed I was being held to let this depart first to Letchworth, thus crossing my path. As I went past it however, the destination blind said 'Special'. Was this actually a special? Again, if so where to and why? After this I left Hitchin on the fast lines and continued all the way to St Neots. If anyone has any information it would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks.

OHLE problems on the Hertford loop.

Trains couldn't go Northbound, so I assume, were running to Hitchin/Letchworth fast and then coming south from there.

I was at Finsbury park a little earlier on Friday and noticed a Letchworth train diverted away from Hertford announced as Non stop from Alexandra palace to Stevenage, it had Special on the front.

I often use the 'special' destination if out of service as its often closer so less scrolling through to find the 'empty to depot' or what aver it says for empties. Could it have been a set of empties at Hitchin?

Assuming you were approximately on-time at Hitchin (booked to pass 20:31) there is a 20:27 from Hitchin p2 (down slow) which is a Moorgate-Hertford-Letchworth service.

If possible, then if queries like this can be asked the same day or the next day then it may be easier for people to find an answer (due to certain systems only having data for current next and previous day).

I don't know what happened Fri night, but Stevenage, Letchworth and (rarely) Biggleswade are the places of choice to turn back loop services.

Biggleswade is used in the morning peak and when the Cambridge is blocked as its the first place on the peterbourgh line which has a turn back.

There's an 8 car 321 which turns back every morning just after 8am at Biggleswade.
