Caledonian Sleeper once again

I have a question and I'm kind of curious what you guys think, so ... RailUK forums to the rescue!

Lets say I have a season ticket from London Euston to Glasgow. Would it be valid on the Caledonian Sleeper at all?
If yes I presume I would need to pay additionally for the berth. What would it cost?
Also what if my season ticket is First Class?

Wasn't the supplement something like £50 if you already had a first class ticket? I vaguely recall that being the supplement when I last used my Britrail Pass on the sleeper.

Right. Than I should change my question slightly. What if I have a staff pass like the ex-BR employees that gives you free travel on all lines of railway network.

Are ALR valid on sleepers? What would be the supplement then?

As documented on this page, the supplement is £38 for a twin berth or £54 for a "solo" berth (exclusive use of a twin berth). The solo supplement is "only available to holders of Standard Anytime and Off Peak returns tickets," but I see no reason as to why it wouldn't also be available to holders of other inter-available flexible tickets, such as ALR's.

It is £43 (for a single berth) if you already have a First Class ticket.

I think the answer is that as long as you have a valid ticket for your journey then it will be valid on the Sleeper, but unless the ticket includes travel in the berth (e.g. Standard Sleeper Single route Cal Sleeper) then you have to pay the berth supplement. Pretty sure this applies to staff travel as well. I overheard a conversation on board the sleeper where someone with staff travel valid standard class only had somehow managed to pay for a first class berth, saying he had done this for years, but was being refused by the sleeper attendant.

The supplements are currently £40.20 standard, £57.20 solo standard and £45.50 first. This information isn't easy to find, but if you try and book a berth using an inter-available ticket then the prices will come up.

Presumably those are the internal fares, not the public ones

I remember a few members of BR staff who tried the old "I want a First Class sleeper" trick
However, we didn't have solo fares at the time
What this person would get was a Standard berth to themselves
However sometimes it would be just as easy to give them a First Class one, as quite often there would be several empty
Equally, they wouldn't get any of the First Class extras!

I shouldn't complain though, I did it once coming back pass from Kings Cross to Aberdeen, due to the national rail strike
The train was wedged and the Station Manager managed to get me the last seat which was in First Class before I left Aberdeen
Knowing the on-board crew helped, they kept me full of food and drinks (which at the time were at cost in First Class)
