Sorry for another food-related post, but apart from the Settle-Carlisle line, is this the first time onboard catering hasn't been done by Rail Gourmet?

Southeastern said:
The trolley service will operate during the week from early in the morning to the early evening, on Saturdays from the morning to mid-afternoon and will also operate on a Sunday during the Summer.

The business will support the community by sourcing all goods from local ‘1066’ suppliers, for example, fruit from a Hastings social enterprise called The Community Fruit & Veg Project, sandwiches and baked goods from 1066 Bakery, specialist beverages from Rye Bay Tea and Coffee and beer and wine from local breweries and vineyards.

Grand Central's catering was in house when I left last year, and I think it still is, with their own stores etc

There is also the odd Northern service which has a real ale bar on board, some of which might do snacks etc. Do like the trolley on the S+C, although I wish it was on the majority of services.

South Eastern's caterers should certainly be praised for including the local ale (Shepherd Neame) on their trollies. I believe the Settle - Carlisle one might be down to the friends of that line.

XC deliver to GC I believe. The XC service centre has been there for a while and hasn advertising for additional staff members. Doubt it would be the other way round due to stock continuity

Sure East Coast is Rail Gourmet - which is why they have areas at Newcastle, York and Leeds for stock taking and storage.

I think what Scotsman is getting at is that on-train the catering is run in house even if the supply is from Rail Gourmet for those TOCs.

Is First Great Westerns catering in House? or is it just the Buffet side too? At least FGW Serves good old St Austells Tribute on their HSTs, and if it's returned - Plymouth Gin.

But this catering sounds good too, and it's nice to see local business getting involved, serving Local british food too! (And the Bakery bit sounds nice too!) :)

. . .
list
. . .
I wonder if we might not be talking about the same thing.

Most of these TOCs, as I am aware, may use their own staff on-board to provide the 'front of house' (FOH) service, but the stocking, train-side deliveries, train-packaging, platform transit, chilled storeage and temp. monitoring, procurement, inventories, consignment paperwork, incoming supplies, secure stores in stations, . . . and . . . (there's so much involved I could go on for ages) are all mananged and provided by R.G.

In fact I'm a little surprised that we're disagreeing about something this fundamental, as we only have to observe the movements on platforms as on-board crew walk away from a terminating service and teams of ISS cleaners and RG catering suppliers, with all their equipment, vehicles and personnel descend onto a train. (Its a spectacle worthy of admiration at large termini such as Kings Cross, but the speed with which EC staff abandon their service and leave it to RG at Newcastle is a study in corporate separation.)

The extent of the real estate in major stations rented to RG should also be a clue.

MITIE now carry out the cleaning at Paddington. ISS are long gone.
