I read recently that southampton city council have safeguarded land opposite the old terminus station by the eastern docks for a possible new station in the future.
This would be on the former down line next to the existing but little used southampton eastern docks freight line.
I don't know what it would be used for really as cruise specials go straight past the site and right into the dock.
There is definately a plan for this on the backburner it is officially called T14 waterfront station.

I always wished there was a station there when I worked at the old South Western House BBC HQ. In those days it was very run down round there, This is like eary 80s . With all the new flats and houses I would have thought it might be useful but not sure which services would run in and out of it. And the old south to west curve is long gone at northam now

ABP are thinking about moving Red Funnel into the Eastern docks, if there was a railway station closer than the current one with actual train services then that would be a massive time saver.
