I was just curious to how far shunters have travelled under there own power on the national network.
Do you mean the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway (spelling??)?
They had to cut down some of the Class 08 shunters in order to get through some of the bridges, I believe.

Weirdly enough as soon as I saw the photo posted in this thread, I immediately recalled that comment posted beneath the image in the relevant issue of Rail!Murray Brown described that in Rail during his editorship as "Oh look! An Italic 08!"
The 08 based at Inverness for shunting the sleeper stock must have got there under its own steam..............sorry, diesel

The traction motors also have to be de-meshed, otherwise they'll be spinning 300% faster then they normally do!
