Hi, Just a few things I would like to say first. First of all, thank you for your help on my recent thread asking for help on a ticket to London. Secondly I would like to apologize to the mods and anyone else who was offended by my post earlier today about how I don't like tennis (Which has since been removed)

Fare help for tickets between Capenhurst and Falmouth

My family have decided we are not going abroad this year, so we have booked a cottage in Falmouth. I get carsick very easily, so a 5+ hour journey isn't for me.

Capenhurst(CPU) to Falmouth town(FMT)

I will be travelling on Friday 17th August and want to travel at 7am or earlier.
The return will be on Friday 31st August and want to travel at about 11am ish.
The fares will be 1 adult 1 child, with a family and friends railcard

I want to travel via London Euston and Paddington with a direct train from Paddington to Truro. If this is not the cheapest, I would like travel via Birmingham, with a direct train from Birmingham to Truro. Again if this is not the cheapest, i would like an alternate route.

My findings

I have looked on trainscanbecheaper.info and it's not the best site as there is no railcard option or passenger option so I don't know what the fares apply for.

The final fare has come out at: £281.00-very expensive

I have looked at National rail enquiries and found the cheapest ticket with my criteria would be around £120.00 (can't get a definite price as it's really complicated)

I'm convinced I can get a cheaper fare but I don't know where to find them though. So could I please ask if anyone could find a cheaper fare following my criteria? Any answers will be Very much appreciated and considered.

Thank you very much

Okay would it be possible to get some dates and times you'd like to travel?

As a baseline of that £120 fare is the straight Off-Peak Return and for one adult and one child with a Family & Friends Railcard at £124.95 and can be bought at stations or online from any ticket selling website (I suggest East Coast but Red Spotted Hanky is also good). I've not had a chance to see if it's posisble to beat that but I'll start looking. You should bear in mind that this ticket is only valid on trains timed to depart after 0930. If you want to travel earlier you'd need a different ticket. You should also bear in mind that this ticket is not valid via Euston/Paddington.

Thank you very much

Chester to London off peak return £63.10 (valid on all VIRGIN services with railcard) for 1 adult & 1 child (with F&F railcard). You may need to purchase a ticket from Capenhurst to Chester??)

London to Truro £86.90 (off peak return)

Total Cost: £150.

For future reference you can do this yourself by going to any journey planner and entering the details and ticking the 'direct trains only' box, but this time I'll do it for you:

1512 BHM -> TRU 2010
1612 BHM -> TRU 2100
1712 BHM -> TRU 2203

Thanks very much Ainsworth74-I often find when searching for trains, it will come up with trains with changes then when I click "Direct trains only" the same results come up.

There are a few Advance tickets available for £30.60 each way from Wrexham, with singles from there to Capenhurst at £4.95. Combining these would give:

out:

Capenhurst 06:42
Chester 06:56-07:19
(Wrexham 07:35-07:44, through train)
Birmingham 09:26-10:12
Plymouth 13:41-13:53
Truro 15:10-15:20
Falmouth 15:41

back:

Falmouth 09:23
Truro 09:48-10:19
Birmingham 15:26-17:26 (!)
(Wrexham 19:01-19:02, through train)
Chester 19:20-19:30
Capenhurst 19:39

for a total of £71.10. There are Advances for the same price from Shotton, but you'd need to find another way to get back from there.

That's not correct. The Virgin concession allowing travel on any Virgin Trains service when using a ticket discounted by certain Railcards only applies when all travel is on Virgin.

If the OP does need to use flexible tickets, travels via Crewe (on trains stopping at Crewe), avoids Shrewsbury and London, and also travels only on services stopping at Totnes, how about:

Capenhurst- Alsager SVR BT £12.10
Preston- Totnes SVR rte Not London 2T £102.85
Totnes- Falmouth SVR WG £22.55
Total: £137.50

There may be cheaper options.

However, in any case, advance tickets would surely be cheaper still.
