Hello,

Travelling tomorrow, day return from leeds-manchester pic, and wanting to ride on some of the recent bits of metroline (eccles and oldham).

Is there a better ticket to buy than a leeds-man stns day return and then whatever the metrolink tvm spit out at me?

Probably the best bet to be honest. Only other suggestion is to get a service stopping at Stalybridge and split there with an NR/Metrolink day ranger...don't have access to ticket costs atm but I don't think this would save you anything

Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly ANY PERMITTED CDR £17.50
Metrolink Saver £4.50

Total £22

Leeds to Stalybridge ANY PERMITTED CDR £13.70
Day Saver Train + Tram £7.20

Total £20.90

Saving of £1.10 but limits you as the train must stop at Stalybridge.

If you don't mind going with the slower Northern route via Hebden Bridge, you can do

Leeds - Walsden 6.10
Walsden - Littleborough 3.00
Train+Tram sver 7.20

This split allows you to take any Northern train bound for Manchester Vic from Leeds.

Thanks all. Can the train/tram daysaver be bought on board TransPennine? Or indeed, can the tram only one be so bought?

Hmmm. Guard on my first train (garforth-leeds) and second (lds-hud) trains didn't know how to issue the £7.20 ticket. The first guy apologised, and the second one said hed try to find it on his machine but couldn't. This was understandable, as both guys weren't working trains that go anywhere near GM.

However, to me it was unacceptable that the guard on TP couldn't find this ticket - though he has allowed us to travel (on our garforth-stalybridge tickets) to Piccadilly to buy the £7.20 ticket there.

Wonder if I'll have some fun with G4S at Piccadilly :)

It's a TfGM ticket, not a rail ticket. Can you buy equivalent tickets for the West Yorks Metro area on the train?

You can buy a West Yorks day rover on board trains, but this is valid on trains only. Perhaps it's the same for the TfGM equivalent ....

Only on a Sunday but its only an hourly service. Monday to Saturday you are limited to trains calling at both Walsden and Littleborough which is 1 train per hour as the semi fast misses both out and another misses Walsden out. Luckily today is a Sunday.

If I remember right you have to put GM into the rovers bit but as Im not at work til Thursday I wouldnt be sure (and I sign Manchester)

Its a ticket that's part of the full range of tickets.

G4S guy with portable machine was happy to issue it. Possibly I was too harsh then.

I've bought daysaver tickets from Leeds ticket office a few times over the past few months, so hopefully you shouldn't have any difficulty. I think the fact that the daysaver doesn't actually include the word "Manchester" on the system can cause difficulties for purchasing outside the Manchester area.

The ticket is issued as destination "Daysaver TM" (H022) from any valid GM origin station, or accessed from the Rovers menu using code GM3.

As yorksrob has mentioned, the fact that the ticket has no mention of Manchester has many guards unfamiliar with the product stumped.
