CCTV on London Midland trains

Im new to this site so don't really know if I'm posting in the write place lol.

But would just like to know whether anyone is likely to know how long trains keep their CCTV footage before it is overwritten?
And whether anyone knows how long London Midland trains keep CCTV footage before over-writing it.

I know in order to request for CCTV footage there is a completely seperate procedure. My purse was lost on a London Midland train, I know the date and time I was on the train and where the train travelled to and from.

However I don't know if it is worth asking to look into CCTV if there's probably no chance of them still having the footage.
I believe this happened about a week ago.

Have you contacted LM to ask if they've found your purse?

What is it you hope CCTV to show? It's unlikely to be of any use. For example if you left it on a seat, and then 5 different people occupied that seat in the next hour, you'd be non the wiser.

Yeah I have contacted them but they're not very helpful.
Also I know somebody got a penalty fare on the journey I took, which was only one stop from new street. Are they likely to keep footage longer for situations as such?

If it has been turned in to a station as 'lost' (i.e. someone found it and gave it to a member of staff), then it could be in the Excess Baggage Company office at New St, you may want to try in there.

The minimum is 30 days and many devices retain records for up to 90 days
However they can retain records on a seperate device and/or media for up to 3 years, but this usually only occurs when there is a reason to retain the copy

Therefore the only way to know would be to apply the Data Protection Officer at London Midland and obtain a copy of their CCTV operations policy

Just to repeat GadgetMan's question, what do you hope the CCTV will show? If you think it was stolen you should have contacted the BTP, who are in a much better position to check the CCTV then you.

Are you even sure the train you were on had CCTV? A good number of LM units don't.

No, I'm not sure whether or not the train had CCTV on it. I don't know how to find this out. But I did think most if not all LM trains had CCTV.

Yeah that's true, but I was also still interested in general how long the CCTV footages are kept, if there was one on the train in the first place.
