e-mail shot from FGW.....................

"plus 10% off your first online booking"

"A tasty 10% off your first online booking"

"an indulgent 10% off"

"book online for 10% off"

"book now and get 10% off"

..........most of this in garish FGW pink so that you get the message......!!

then the small print..........

"Terms and conditions: 10% off Standard class, one way, Advance Purchase tickets only."

Is that really the best you can manage FGW ??

Almost all of the 'amazing' offers I receive in my inbox are so heavily restricted as to make them worthless. This is on the generous side of the average offer in my experience.

I've taken better offers - how about 80% off Anytime travel. Offer ends when the Pricing Manager is able to decipher the engineering behind and can legitimately shut the loophole :)

Would be better if it wasn't only for "your first online booking", how many people are on FGW's mailing list for reasons other than booking tickets on their website?

My thoughts exactly!

10% is better than nothing.

Hardly ......... I had been on a trip the day before this "offer" arrived, my Advance ticket cost me the princely sum of £2.95 each way. The "saving" would hardly have paid for the electricity used by my PC to make the booking :lol:
(I must say, my ticket was incredible value anyway: A normal single was £16.95 and an Off Peak Return was £18.15)

I did wonder if this offer was to enable FGW to say something like "there has been a large increase in online bookings in the last x months" as part of their campaign to shut lots of booking offices.

You must dwell on the ticketing options for quite a while then.

If it was an option of paying £2.95 for the ticket or £2.65 for the very same ticket by the very same method, I know which I would choose.

I think the idea behind this is to encourage new people to sign up to fgw, in the process fgw capaturing e-mail!
Once they have your e-mail they can send out more marketing e-mails, thus hopefully earning more revenue!
