Hi all, just wondering if anyone could help with the following journey. Normally I'm pretty adept at splitting, however this one is boggling my mind a bit...
I need to travel London - Durham - London
Travelling London - Durham Friday 27th July, leaving London between 10am and 10:30am.
Returning Durham - London Sunday 29th July, arriving London between 5pm and 6pm.
The basic return price appears to be £117.20.
Where is the best place to try and split? There are so many different places to try that I don't know where to start, and it'd be good to know if there are any that, in users' experience here, are not going to give any saving so to not bother trying them.
Perfectly happy to change trains en-route - it doesn't have to be a split remaining on the same train - but would prefer the journey to be reasonably expeditious (i.e. don't particularly want 4 changes each way and an hour hanging around at each station!)
Not bothered whether it's 1st or standard.
I am actually travelling up from Gatwick Airport on a flight that lands in Gatwick at 7:30am, hence - allowing for delays - not wanting to depart Kings Cross before 10am. (I have an unused anytime return portion Gatwick - St Pancras which is valid for that day.)
As I said, I'm quite prepared to put in the work to find the best combinations of splits, I'd say I'm reasonably proficient with rail tickets and generally know my way around the network - I'd just appreciate a nudge in the right direction for where is the best place to start looking.
Thanks very much.
