Does Nottingham have more different coloured buses on it's streets than any other city in the country ?
I don't mean the odd bit of branding with a few stickers or the routes name/number painted onthe side but completley different coloured buses for varying routes.
Nottingham City Transport has 16 differing liveries and Trent Barton a similar number (plus the colours of the few independent operators).

Whilst I am not completely disagreeing with the 40-odd GNE 'liveries', I would suggest they are route branding, not liveries.

So perhaps yes, I do disagree....:)

In Oxford you can see

Oxford Bus Co - City red livery
Oxford Bus Co - Park & Ride green livery (2 variants)
Oxford Bus Co - Brookes Bus blue livery
(If they are eligible for inclusion here, the Oxford Bus Co coaches on the London X90 and Airport services also have their own liveries)
Thames Travel white livery
Thames Travel green and blue livery
(TT also have some buses recently acquired from Carousel and Damory, and in their liveries)
Stagecoach - "normal" livery
Stagecoach Gold (both from SC Oxon and SC West)
Stagecoach "green"/hybrid livery
Stagecoach Oxford Tube (which are used on a few bus services to Oxford in the morning peaks as well as on the London run)
Arriva The Shires
Swanbrook
RH Transport (who have one bus still in Plymouth Citibus livery)
Red Rose
Heyfordian
Charlton on Otmoor services
Go Ride (Sat eves and Sundays only)

Nope, not convinced, still think they are route branding not liveries. :) Even GNE mention branding not liveries

Simply Go website said:
Go North East is dedicated to engaging with local communities through its innovative, branded bus routes which not only engender community pride but increase passengers and market share. High profile brands such as ‘Red Arrows’, ‘Angel’ and ‘Red Kite’ offer new, higher quality travel experiences for an increasing number of customers whilst the ‘Tyne Tees Link’ provides new regional express links.

Funnily enough when I am in the UK I stay in Rowlands Gill so travel on the the Red Kite branded 45/46 and the bleeding horrible Toon Link branded 47 all too often. Mind you it is quite easy to see which bus is coming over the bridge when waiting at the Metrocentre. :D

You're definitely arguing semantics here- just because they don't call it a "livery" doesn't mean it isn't one; one could equally call a standard livery "company branding".

From the highlighted section in the opening post, I would definitely include Go North East. Or on the opposite side you could argue NCT is just branding, with them being the same base livery but using different colours for each route.
The main problem with GNE for this thread, however, is working out how many go into each city, rather than how many they have in the company, again with the opening post stating how many different coloured buses are in a city.

You missed Stagecoach Magic Bus (on one daily trip on the 384 from Marple Hibbert Ln), First Hybrid (on the 380, 381 and 386 routes to Romiley) and MCT (on the 173 Manchester - Stepping Hill). Also, what buses do TfGM operate?

I had seen occasional Magic Bus Olympians in the yard by Stockport bus station/ garage but didn't realise they operated these Stagecoach workings. By TfGM I meant the First Hybrids on routes 380/81/86 s these are leased from TfGM. You are right that I forgot MCT 173. Those buses are ghastly anyway and look like ambulances.

Second question: is this just dealing with the CBD

If you're looking at Newcastle, don't forget that there is also Stagecoach, Arriva Northumberland, Arriva Northeast (yes, they are subtley different!) and Megabus (and National Express, I suppose...)
