I was at Accrington railway station earlier today with family and they wanted a day return to Preston for 2 Adults and 1 Child using a Family and Friends railcard travelling today only.

The TVM on Platform 1 said the price of the tickets was £6.65.
The Booking Office said the price of the tickets was £11.70.
The Northern Customer Services via Twitter said the price of the tickets was £22.75.
National Rail Enquiries said the price of the tickets was £10.55 for Anytime tickets or £26.25 for Off Peak tickets!

Now this is very confusing, which is the correct fare? As all four insist they are correct!

Can anyone please tell me which one is actually correct please!

NFM11 CD says the total (with railcard discount) is £11.80

SDR - ANYTIME DAY R NT
00000 - ANY PERMITTED

2 Adults @£ 5.15 = £ 10.30
1 Child @£ 1.50 = £ 1.50
__________
£ 11.80
Standard Class Return

That's now 6 prices I've seen - is it any wonder the ticketing systems need to be over hauled drastically!

Shall we see if we can go for a Guinness World Record?

£6.65 you possibly keyed 1 adult 1 child by mistake. £11.70 vs £11.80 is probably a rounding issue. £26.25 is East Lancashire Day Rangers. Can't match £10.55 or £22.75.

Why would the TVM show a different price to the Booking Office though?

No, I checked three times that I was asking the TVM for a Anytime Day Return frm Accrington to Preston for 2 Adults and 1 Child with railcard and it certainly was £6.65.

Unless the TVM has the wrong fares on it?

NFM11 gives £11.70 for 2 adults as the Northern "Duo" fare (but no children covered by that fare)

The TVM at Rye (Sussex) says Anytime day return £11.80, Anytime Day Single £10.55

What I ought to have done in hindsight is to take a photo of the TVM's screen as the final payment due was like I've been saying £6.65 so I'm thinking there's a major problem with the TVM at the station listing the wrong fares!

I know what I asked the TVM for and I know exactly what it told me plus I had three other witness's who observed me and who saw the total amount of £6.65 not once but another 3 times when I went to double check.

This is why I've been querying the tickets, as with all TVMs it gives the options of the most popularly used tickets so I simply selected one and that's what I got.

Any chance you could go back and try and repeat it?

Or if the price is still lower, then purchase them for your trip, photograph them, then if they appear wrong go to the booking office and pay the difference?
