Looks like a right cracker this year: A few of the home locos (08443, 20020, 26024, 37175, 47643 AND "the blue train" Class 303) plus a Colas 66, a GBRf 66, a West Coast Railways loco and Class 26038 for the first time in Scotland in 20 years.

Going to get time off work for a visit.

Surely it would have been better to have such an event over a weekend, not everyone can get time off during the week! Would have loved to have gone but couldn't!

Not quite as mad, but I am doing Bo'ness as a day trip from East Hertfordshire on Saturday. Flight up, train back. I hope the sun stays out!

Now if anybody just happens to be passing Edinburgh airport at 8.30 on Saturday morning.....! :D

Well (and despite no lift offers!!!) I made it to Bo'ness. All transport worked well, Luton airport busy but security fully manned, early arrival at Edinburgh allowed me to take the first service with 20020.

The timetable got disrupted pretty quickly as there was wheel flat on one of the coaches of the main set. That and the occasional rain shower did not disrupt a really good day. The 37 was great as ever, 26038 with the blue train was wired but fun!

A great little railway. Buffet good if a little limited in hot food options. Staff good and stock in pretty good shape.

My only gripe is why not two trains at the same time - Birkhill or Kinneil fill in services would be good to improve the hourly service.

Now on the 17.30 ex Edinburgh back home. Enjoying a beer while I watch the world pass by.

Well done SPRS and visitors (GBRf, Colas and WCRC [Haymarket machine 47270])

Interesting weekend. Rode in the cab of 66727 as things went to pot(!) and the return of the 303 (full and standing)!

Great day today, 038 sounded great and the colas 66 looked great! Have posted a few pictures on twitter #bonessdieselgala. I wonder what the turnout was for the whole weekend?

I was there yesterday as well and thought the gala was the best one I've been to so far. It was great to see the visiting locos 26038, 47270, 66727 and 66850 in action, however for me the highlight was 303032 being pushed up to Manuel and hauled back. It was full and standing there and back, even the problem getting the sliding doors to close properly on the centre coach was just like when they were in everyday service in the SPT area. I cant believe it is really almost 10 years since they were withdrawn. Where has the time gone? Well done and thanks to everyone who organised the Gala.

(Close, but wrong link - youve linked to the lakeside & haverthwaite railway)

Nice pictures by the way, though i think 47270 could do with a little tart up as the blue paints starting to fade.

Also, does anyone know if theres any plans to 'tart up' the 303? It's certainly a unit i need sometime as i never got any in service unfortunatly - and double the Haulage with the 26 /27 on the front, but it's certainly looking a little weatherworn.

Whoops sorry , Correct link here

I'm sure I red somewhere that the 303 was to get a fresh coat of the orange and black Strathclyde Transport livery. The motor coach (originally from 303023) would have been repainted into the SPT Carmine and cream around 1997 ish and the trailers probably a couple of years before then. The set was stored out in the open for a while only moving under cover when they built the shelter for both it and the DMU either last year or the year before.

I was there on Saturday! A fantastic selection of locos at work, I think. It was particularly nice to see 26038 making a rare appearance in Scotland.

Great photographs, scotsman and 303032. :)
