Break of Journey on a Season Ticket

Hi,

Hopefully this should be an easy question.

I have a season ticket between Edinburgh (EDB) and West Calder (WCL) the stopping services on this line all stop at Kirknewton Station (KKN), and I know I can use my ticket for travel between intermediate stations.

This week I plan to get the 1824 EDB-KKN. However this service goes to Motherwell via Carstairs which means that it does not pass through WCL.

My question is my season valid on this journey even though the service in question does not pass through WCL? If it is valid am I likely to have any issues with the conductor, nor recognizing that it is valid?

Perfectly valid to use on this train. You have unlimited travel between the stations shown on your ticket and can break, board, & alight at all intermediate stations en route to your heart's content until the expiry date shown.

You should have no problems with the guard - he will probably ask where you are going to make sure you are on the right train though?

Hi,

It is valid. What matters is that you remain on the line of route of the ticket you are using. It doesn't matter where the ultimate destination of the train is and you'll be fine so long as you get off that one at Kirknewton.

Just to let folks know while I had no problem on the train I was initially refused entry to the platform at the manual ticket blockade (it left from one of the remote platforms with no automatic barriers) on the grounds that I did not have a valid ticket for travel on the service .

I had to obtain the assistance of one of the customer services folks on the concourse who confirmed that I did indeed have a valid ticket and who escorted me through the blockade.

I will be very happy to proof read a letter, if you wish to write one (I suggest you do) that would praise & thank the customer service staff while expressing concern about the barrier staff and asking for confirmation that suitable training will be provided to all staff.
