Hi All,

I'm looking to seek your expert advice on ticketing between Rugby and North Berwick...

Two of us are travelling on Saturday August 4th and returning on Saturday August 11th, both with Y-P railcards. Open tickets would be preferable to advances.

I've had a look at splitting tickets at a few points on the west coast but haven't had much luck. If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful. The Edinburgh - North Berwick leg can be left off if necessary.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've found for a lot of fares it is cheaper to split at Edinburgh. However make sure you get your tickets prior to boarding the Edinburgh - North Berwick train if you want your Y-P discount! Lots of passengers do board without tickets claiming that they only had a few minutes to change trains expecting to get discounts on board - but note there has been a bit of a purge recently.

You can get EBB - NBW tickets at Rugby or at a push from the TM on the Virgin train if you think you won't have time at Edinburgh.

That makes sense, thanks.

Any suggestions on other potential splitting points?

Sorry for delay I wasn't at work so had no access to fares info. I looked at splitting at Crewe, Warrington, & Lancaster and permutations thereof, however, I did not find any great savings - a couple of £s at most with the extra hassle of "train must cal at..........l"; "London Midland Only" &c. In fact a lot of splits added a fair bit onto the fare!!

Splitting at Edinburgh saves £0.25 so is not really worth it
