Are there any disused level crossings in Scotland, England and Wales that still have barriers, flashing lights or still have rails in the middle of a road that have not be in operation for a number of years?

There's one to the south of Sherburn-in-Elmet station near York, disused for a while but still has permanently closed gates I think.

Interesting thread; sorry I can't link, on phone.

Last time I was at Sherburn (2011), I think the road lights still flashed when a train was due, despite the barriers being fixed down and fenced off. Anyone confirm that?

One that definately still seems to be in use is this in Uttoxeter.

There's loads of disused railways crossing roads out there, especially in industrial areas like at Plymouth, Avonmouth, Cardiff and the 65,000 level crossings around Trafford Park.

I'm not entirely certain what the OP is asking for. I would guess that you want level crossing where either the road or railway has become disused, but full infrastructure (lights, barriers etc) are left in place.

I think the OP is asking for operational railways with blocked or similar LCs where the equipment for them still remains intact and in good condition.

There is one near to me in Talbot Green (S. Wales) where the now disused line from Pontyclun (formerly Llantrisant) to Treforest crosses the A473

There is one at Dinting Lane on the Man Picc to Hadfield route. Barriers fixed down but no lights.

That one is still, technically, in use. It has been retained because there is an aspiration to run a passenger service from Beddau to Cardiff, either via the Main Line or over the rebuilt TVR line to Waterhall Junction on the City Line.

Are you serious?

I know that there were plans for it a few years back, but I thought they had gone away again now. Most of the rails have been removed by Network Rail (not those through the crossing I hasten to add)

I think Banbury Lane also remains on the Weedon branch of the WCML south of Rugby, the gates are shut and lighting removed; all road traffic now uses a roadbridge nearby.

There's the remains of a nice old manual one at Totton, Hampshire. Just up the line at Redbridge, there is also road signage still in place on Tate Road, warning of a level crossing up ahead which no longer exists!

The lights were there for quite a while after it closed but yes, they're all gone now.

There are two disused level crossings in Northampton on the old Bedford/Peterborough lines.

Believe Ipswich still has gates and lights with track still in situ leading from the old upper yard across the dual carriage way towards the marina.

There's 2 on the A483 north and south of Oswestry which remained in situ as the branch to Blodwell quarry from Gobowen was "mothballed" from 1988 till 2010. There now owned by Shrophire CC and leased to Cambrian Heritage Railways.

Stoke Bridge Road Ipswich was removed a couple of years ago. Ranelagh Road Ipswich is still in place.

I'm pretty sure Gosport was home to some abandoned infrastructure which quite possibly included a crossing or two on an old MOD branch (Bedenham?) It may have been ripped up as part of the recent BRT project, not been there to take a look for a long while!

Yes, I am serious.

I'll confirm that - its actualyl one of the reasons why the bridge in Cross Inn was repaired/replaced about 15 years ago...that also gives some idea of how long a decision has been waiting too...

I also think because of the spoil heap at Cwm Colliery/Coking Works the track is also being kept in case these are ever to be removed/recycled. The A473 was always a nightmare when they ran lorries instead of trains
