Anyone got, or ever watch any of these DEV's?

I can't help but feel that Jeremy English (If that's his name) asks questions to drivers but always already knows the answers!

I have quite a few of these, very good especially as they are in the 80s and 90s! He might well know the answers but it does help those watching it, hence I like watching them for the chatter as well, so it's probably done on purpose.

Andrew Kennedy is the other one, he can sound un-interested with an answer and have a memory like a fish, but I do like Jeremy though, and he can be funny.

The best cab ride had to be the Paddington to Bristol TM one, that had me in stitches, especially from the traction inspector (I think it was, John was his name I think), who even swore once, but was funny. I also liked the bit when he says 'SINGLE YELLOW DRIVER!!'!

I used to have a couple of full Railscene cab rides on VHS:
Dover-Willesden filmed in 1986 from a Class 47 on one of the Intercity services from the long gone Dover Western Docks to either Liverpool or Manchester.
London Euston to Liverpool Lime street, filmed in 1985 on a Class 86.

Both cab rides were bought secondhand at various occasions, but the Dover-Willesden tape seemed quite knackered in places, you could hardly hear anything, and the lighting quality was pretty poor at times. You could just make out various conversations between Jeremy and the crew, but for nostalgia its a good watch. Slam door units in BR Blue, Blue/Grey and Jaffa Cake livery, quite a few stored Hastings DEMUs at Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, GW Green 47 on the southbound Dover service at Ashford, even a Blue and Grey 455 at Beckenham Junction too! The program finishes at Wilesden Junction where the 47 is detached, and runs light into the sidings, just as an 86 is watching to attach to take the train onwards.

Only watched London-Liverpool once, the tape is in much better condition, and this occasion, you can actually hear the conversations a bit better. Theres also a "live" commentary being done by the traction inspector things like "Oh look, Class 501 on the DC lines, not many of those left nowadays!"
Also, it shows Crewe station before it was rebuilt and remodelled in the mid 1980s.

I've downloaded a fair few of them from usenet and have a copy of the Dover to Willesden one, fascinating stuff, especially IIRC the dallying around at the end where they change to an electric loco.

I still have five of the original VHS TAPED Railscene series:-

Cab Ride 4...Exeter to Plymouth
Cab Ride 5...Euston to Liverpool
Cab Ride 13..Crewe to Holyhead
Cab Ride 39..Manchester to Barrow
Cab Ride 54..Manchester to Sheffield

All are in their original Kingfisher Productions boxes. The Manchester to Barrow one was the first one that I purchased and is interesting as it starts from the old Manchester Victoria station with its 16 platforms.
