Is it permitted to split tickets at request stops? I'm planning to do the Cumbrian Coast line from Carlisle to Lancaster and found a split at Aspatria to be the cheapest option. Is this valid, as Aspatria is a request stop? (The train I'm using is scheduled to call at Aspatria on request).

Yes it is. (why wouldn't it be?)

I thought I'd ask because the NRCoc say that "the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one ticket to the other", so it is possible that reading it exactly one could argue that it is not valid as the train may not actually call at the station.

I thought it would probably be OK, but thought I'd ask.

ask the guard to stop, get off & get on again! SIMPLES!

(Just a joke!) It's probably worth showing both tickets to the guard and explaining what you're doing, so they don't potentially make an unnecessary stop and then wonder why you haven't got off.

Yes, ask the guard whether hed prefer to stop the train, waste brake blocks (discs?), waste diesel to pull away, use a couple of minutes of recovery time, or just glide through at 10mph.

Yes, you'll be fine. I've done the same thing on that line (splitting at Foxfield in my case). Just told the guard what I was up to and she was fine with it - even complimenting me for finding a way of saving 50p or so on the fare.
