Hi, I am travelling to London next month and I am wondering whether to go first class on the Greater Anglia Intercity Service from Norwich to Liverpool Street, from what I have heard the greater Anglia first class is not great. Is there any real difference between GA's first class apposed to standard class except from wider seats, 1x2 seating arrangements etc. Thanks

From previous threads it doesn't sound as if it is worth it unless the 1st class ticket is a few quid more than the standard class one (as can be the case with advances).

Pretty much spot on, although I did hear they may start refreshments soon.

Free refreshments in 1st class started in June. You get free wi-fi, a guaranteed table seat and the seat pitch is greater than 2nd class.

And they're often not much more expensive.

This is only for the Intercity trains between London and Norwich, on all other services you just get 2+2 seating ( as with standard on most operators ) and a head rest cover that may or may not have been replaced since the beginning of the franchise.

Small tea, coffee, juice, water, biscuits & KP crisps. There is no limit within reason & yes you do have to walk to the buffet counter.

Why is it is seems that only two, maybe three operators provide a decent 1st class provision nowadays, is it all a case of cram as much in as possible in the former NSE region?

Get away with as little as possible - can you answer the question on the Middlesbrough Station thread (infrastructure) why there is no WHS at that station please :p

Thankyou Mr WHS..

The GEML is not an upmarket route IMO and somebody will have done a business case and decided that the cost of providing a frilly service a la Virgin will not bring in enough additional revenue to cover the costs.

I have been with GA 1st class once before on the Norwich line, and the seats are very comfortable but there is no trolley service. From Norwich to Colchester I had the carriage to myself.

Not a clue, I haven't worked for WHS for over two years now ;)

You could forward the question to Peter Booker from Newcastle since he's the Reigonal Manager for North One of WHS Travel that would have controlled Middlesbrough station, my guess is the same reason they're in very few Northern controlled stations...

Working for the Government now (again)...

Yes we used to sell them in The Bingo Halls about 20 years ago :p

We used to give away TVs in the bingo hall, was 800 prize tokens for the TV, (€800 worth)... (They'd have to sink about €3000 to win that much)...

Still this is the bingo hall where I chain smoked while calling...
