Is there any way to get the fare down a bit from the Off-Peak YP return? (£31.30)

Of course. Coventry to Banbury, Banbury to Reading. Total price £15.65. All trains stop at Banbury.

The 21:24 from COV on Sunday evenings doesn't stop at Banbury. I nearly go caught out by that.

It is not unknown for the Train Manager to organise for the train to stop there anyway.

An oddity, but as the OP is travelling on a weekday, the OP needn't be concerned.
