Am I also right in saying that all platforms at Warrington bank quay are through?
If so when the Ellesmere port-Warrington line runs, both destinations are through platforms.
Helsby on the same line also has terminating services with no bay platform

Sittingbourne.

Dover Priory has terminating platforms. I'm sure Hastings does too, but it's been a while since I've been there.

Dover Priory does not have any bay platforms. Hastings does with p4, not used by anything (booked at least), created when the new station building was built as it covers some of the trackbed west of p4.

So are there any stations with terminating services but no terminating platform, so the line goes straight through the platform.

What about services from the south terminating at Stockport? They have to use through platforms because the only bay platform is for trains from the north.

But that station still has a terminating service which uses that bay platform so i'm afraid Stockport is invalid as the station needs to be completely through plaform
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I think Bournemouth also has no bay platforms and the hourly XC from manchester terminates there

Bournemouth does have a bay platform, unused since the Southern services from Victoria stopped in 2004 though.

While it doesn't affect Stockport your exact words were:

There are some stations which were not originally on the end of the line but under the Beeching cuts they became terminus stations but the line was allowed to continue slightly beyond the end of the platform

Great Malvern, Whitlocks End, Moreton in Marsh, Hereford (Bay platform is for departing trains only..terminating trains arr plat 1 or 2 then shunt to 4),Dorridge (Platformed used for terminating LM services is thro platform, also used on occasion by terminating Chiltern services). Stourbridge Jcn (mainline services), Kidderminster, Chepstow (not sure if peak hour trains still finish there), Burton on Trent (EMT London Services),Worcester Foregate St, Worcester Shrub Hill.

I suppose technically Liverpool Lime Street Lower Level, since Central is closed and services are listed as terminating but instantly become the next service to most likely wherever it was coming from.

Dover Priory, Ashford Int'l, Ramsgate, Margate, Hastings, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone West are some i can think of in the South East.

Dover Priory has no bay platforms. I'm also pretty certain that platform 4 at Margate, with trains to/from St Pancras, is a bay platform?

Also in the south east Faversham and Gillingham.

AFAIK nothing terminates at Wilmslow these days. Everything continues to Alderley Edge to terminate - Alderley Edge being another station to go on the list.

Evening services from Manchester Oxford Rd terminate at Wilmslow (Mon-Sat)

I would add Warrington Central, Macclesfield, Lichfield City, Lichfield TV,Rugeley TV, Burnley Central*, Runcorn*, Hamilton Square**. Apologies if any of these already said that I've missed.

* 1 service per week
** 1 service per day

And are they really removing the bay at PBO, why are they doing that?

I believe it stops platform 2 being extended to 12 cars, and it also causes some conflicting movements whenever a service uses it. There's also another island being added on the west side, works in progress on it I think, it should be completed quite soon in the grand scheme of things.

They are now I believe although there used to be a bay which was used for the St Helens service at the North End of the down island platform in the 60s. I recall that this was used as a stabling bay for Electric locos in the 80s.

EDIT : I've just lookedon Google Maps and the bay appears to still be there although it isn't used by the Liverpool terminators.

Northern run an hourly terminator from Liverpool Lime Street to WBQ.

Yeovil Junction & Gillingham (Dorset) have infrequent terminators from Waterloo.
Salisbury has a bay platform but the through roads are used by terminators from Waterloo.

Doesn't Victoria have bays though?

Manchester Victoria has two east facing bays.

I don't think Kentish Town or West Hampstead Thameslink (one morning peak terminator) have been mentioned so far. Hampstead Heath has one service a day from Woodgrange Park. One train a day starts at Flitwick.

Not sure if this is within the scope of this thread, but trains terminating at Newcraighall continue a short distance beyond the station to reverse (despite there only being one platform) due to the station being on an incline. A similar arrangement used to apply at Newstead when the 'Robin Hood' line was in its infancy in the mid 1990s.

Yes but all the platforms at the station need to be through, at Stockport there is a bay platform so that doesn't count in our case

I'm afraid Hereford is invalid as not all platforms are through platforms

For Tyne and Wear Metro you can add Regent Centre, Longbenton, Benton, Monkseaton, Manors, Pelaw, Sunderland (already mentioned), Park Lane, South Gosforth.

I believe Queens park is used for late evening overground services to terminate at. I'm not aware of any bay platforms there either

There Seems to be mixed responses with regards to Dover Priory... Is all the confusion over platform three where the London Victoria services terminate??
